Kimi is arguably the best driver in a lesser car (Hami is a great driver but the Mercedes is about as good as the Ferrari). Kimi has 134 pts to date, Hami 141, Rosberg 104.

Great choice. The main question is chemistry.
    How will Kimi:
    Get along with SF?
    Get along with Fred?

    Forza Kimi!

A great day indeed! Ferrari realized the error of their ways of how they handled Kimi before and how they've kept Massa all this time. Ferrari's finally doing it right. They now have a team that consists of arguably the two top drivers on the grid...instead of having one top driver and a midfield driver at best. Difficult to win anything that way.

    FORZA FERRARI!!!

When was the last time an ex-Ferrari F1 driver was allowed to make a come back at the Scuderia? Does anyone know?

I can only recall Clay Regazzoni who left for BRM and returned.
Also Ickx who drove a McLaren and came to finish the season at Ferrari.

Gurney, Baghetti, even Surtees drove for Ferrari after leaving, but only sport cars.

    Well Fred has 169 pts
    Kimi has 134 pts
    That's 303 pts total.

Red Bull has 352 pts for the constructors championship. SF is still 49 pts shy.

I wonder if Kimi knows something that we don't about next year's Ferrari. It's quite a gamble with the new rules. Or he knew he had to get out of Renault, because he might know their 2014 car is not good (or because the team doesn't have enough money to build and develop a competitive car).

134 pts with Lotus, with the F138, he could have won more. All this is speculation of course, what matters now is next year. Cudos to LDM for putting personal ego aside and bringing him back. I was certain it would happen after I read LDM's irecent nterview. He was asked whether he'd bring back Kimi after what happened in the past, and he replied: "what happened? we won the championship".

It will be fun to watch this play out... hopefully it will be as entertaining as when Hamilton and Alonso were on the same team.

Although everyone is more mature then they used to be, I'm expecting some dramas to unfold in the second half of next season if either driver is told to move over for the other.. I simply think Kimi and Alonso have too much pride to follow team orders like this.

Well done Luca .. true to his word .. no one is bigger than the team and he's put aside his feelings towards Kimi after their last tie up and signed the driver. I hope Fred & Kimi play nicely together .. bring on 2014!!

Excellent point, as well as showing Alonso who the real Boss is at Ferrari. Finally two of the best drivers on the Planet on the same team in the same car. Forza Ferrrari, Forza Kimi, and Forza Alonso.

Kimi doesn´t know who´s gonna have the best car in 2014, for sure, because nobody knows that a this moment, but he, as everybody, can see that Lotus won´t last too long without big sponsors. If it´s true that he even hasn´t been paid yet, that alone is a good reason for leaving.

Then Ferrari just took the opportunity.

    +1. Agreed.

Very bad move by Ferrari. Kimi will just get in the way of the best driver on the grid.

I'm not so sure..... Kimi was always *super* quick when he wanted to be.

He's also going in with his eyes wide open this time - I certainly don't know, but suspect he's got all kinds of "he doesn't need to do X,Y,Z" clauses in this contract too. They may not be paying huge $, but I'm sure he's leveraged their desire to have him back in ways that suit him.

    A happy Kimi = A fast Kimi.

    Gonna be interesting for sure!....

    Cheers,
    Ian
