Nice find Jeff...
Hi guys - I'm Glenn. The ride in the CEA Squadra Corse 348 was a really special experience for me, I've loved the car for years. The full story as mentioned is that when Berger was saved from burning to death at Imola he bought the CEA marshals the 348 as a gift. They have used it as their fire car every year since. It was used at both Imola and Monza and was there on May the 1st 1994 at Imola when Senna was killed. You can see it in the Senna movie after the start line crash. At the start of the Italian GP it always follows the field and parks behind a barrier just before the della Roggia chicane after the Curva Grande. I've been to Monza 5 times in the past 8 years and have built up a relationship with CEA Squadra Corse and as I am a 348 owner and run the 348 Facebook page :- https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=31056569795&__user=839269740 I asked them if I could get some pics of the car and a lap around the track. Given the pressure of a GP weekend I was chancing it and never expected them to agree but they did and made a dream of mine come true, which was amazing. Unfortunately I discovered that the car is only driven by Ugo Tomasini and he is retiring next year and the car will retire along with him. The car is completely standard and a beauty - a piece of F1 history that is overlooked by most people.
Something to note is that this car is unique as it is the only car on the F1 calendar that forms behind the grid and safety car. F1 has a deal with Mercedes and they try not to show the 348 on TV but obviously at the start you occasionally get a glimpse. Awesome! Thank you for sharing this information. I am sad to know the 348 will be retired next year. I hope they don't follow through with it.
I hope they take you up on the offer. SERIOUSLY. Have a talk with them before the race next year, and see if they'll agree to it. Do it for the 348 Brotherhood.
I would love to! I tell you what - it may not be apparent in the video but Ugo doesn't hang about, he was sliding that 348 round the chicanes.
......great story.....thanks for sharing. You can always ask them if they want a yellow 348 instead of the red one. Rgds, //B//
