I'm not usually into this kind of stuff, but wanted a small model of a red & tan 308 GTS for my desk at work. It turns out Hot Wheels recently (2013) released a 308 GTS QV in "Magnum,p.i." packaging. Mine arrived today, and I can say it's kinda cool. They are about $10 on eBay. I might even just keep it in the packaging on the desk. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks similar to this one from a few years ago. Plenty of small details are a bit off, but hey, it's Hot Wheels, not really expecting perfection. Ones that I noticed: Pininfarina emblem on both sides, the rear emblem says 308 GTS instead of quattrovalvole (guess that wouldn't fit). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wait until the initial rush is over, and they will start appearing at Wal Mart. The Miami Vice TR and Daytona from the same series have trickled down to Wal Mart. The one that will be hard to find is the Ferris Bueller 250. By the way, there are also the VW bus and Chopper from TC's company, Island Hoppers.
Sorry, not a Hot Wheels but a Revell model, since it's a Magnum PI related I thought I'd share this with you. I bought this about five years ago and still haven't put it together. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Got mine about a month ago, but am extremely jealous of the guy whose got the entire set (van & chopper)..
I had the same thing, except I bought it off the shelf YEARS ago when it was new. The body is actually a GTB. Mine broke when I moved here to GA a couple years ago - I just havent brought myself to throw it away. PDG
I also missed the one Wilson308 posted - I have ALMOST the whole set of them from the Hot Wheels Garage - but no 308s. I am going to HAVE to look for that Magnum PI set. That just went way up my have to have list!!! PDG
Boys eventually become men, but men never really stop being boys. I'll be on Amazon in about two minutes ordering my own. Thanks for the heads up!
They are and will be in Wal Marts for about $4, then grocery stores for $2. Interestingly, I bought some there and the employees (in their 40s) didn't know what it or the Miami Vice cars were. There are some other good ones like Batmobile, Smokey and the Bandit, A-Team, Scooby Van, Knight Rider, etc. in the series.
I've still got the version with "Magnum P.I" on the hood in yellow. I think it's around 10 years old...
Hey Mike... at the current moment, I'm putting the same kit together which of course its a typical Revell kit, takes a lot of extra sanding to get the lines on the body right... very crude molds.
Came out in 1997 and hung around for a few years. On the bottom, it says Copyright 1981 and is a 308 GTB with the roof painted black.
I've got a couple dozen Hotwheels red 308s that I bought last year by bin-diving at the local Krogers markets for $1.99 each. I keep a few in the luggage space and use them as giveaways to kids that show admiration for the car when I'm out and about in it. I've got a dozen or more of series #496 from several years ago too, plus some other odds and ends. Here are a few of the different ones in my give-away cupboard. Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is an interesting marketing campaign by Hot Wheels. Who are they marketing this toy to? Do kids today even know what Magnum PI is?
Searching for "Ferrari Hot Wheels" on Amazon, I get 20 pages of die cast models. For example the 250 California or 410 Super America. I think there will always be a market for models of any Ferrari.
My guess would be no... I grew up in the early 90s and never watched a single episode until after I bought a 308. But most kids aren't interested that much in the specifics of the cars or the packaging, if it looks cool to them that's all it takes. Plenty of adult collectors out there these days too.
My kids know about Magnum, P.I., and love the Ferrari, they are 11 and 9. Of course I will not allow them to know of pop culture today, hence my 11 year old's Queen T-Shirt...
