    Hello,

I am considering of replacing the thermostat in my 348. The original Ferrari part is slightly high priced, so I've been searching for an alternative part that does the same thing SAFELY, but had no luck. Everybody knows how critical can be a thermostat fail, so I don't want to take too much risk with it.

Anyone has tried an alternative part succesfully?

    Thanks!

Birdman gave me their name when the thermostat went out in my 87 Mondial. Had it installed and it has worked fine. I believe they have different ones. Mine was set to open a 87 degrees C, or about 188 degrees F. When running the needle stays just below the 195 degree mark on my gauge.

    Part numbers I had were
    D56 121 113F
    W0133-1633589

Do not know it those part numbers are applicable to your car, but you can ask them.

    Unit was about $23.

    Good luck

    Great information. Charles.

I'll try at this store, I am not sure that your 87 Mondial thermostat would fit in my 348, but maybe they have the correct one.

I`ve been reading in the 348 workshop manual that the thermostat opens at 80ºC / 85ºC (180ºF / 185ºF) so, if yours opens at 87ºC (188ºF), I don't think it could make a big difference about temps.

    Thanks.

    Kind regards.

Thanks Mike and Chuck for the link to the thermostat removal DIY thread, It's a fantastic guide as Ernie usually makes.

Thanks Charles, I'm gonna give them a jingle tomorrow and order one.

One thing to keep in mind. I measured the diameter of the 348 thermostat, and it's 56.07mm wide.

I think I paid $45 for a Ferrari part this year. Not really THAT expensive.
