The front end is noticeable sharper at higher speeds. Still not 100% sure yet though as I haven't had it in a track. I removed pretty much all of the lower fork shims to correct camber, I think it's a bit over 2.
I may try to get the 348 there at some point. Would hope it's faster than my miata but I'm not holding my breath.
I took my 97 355 there (road atl) this past w/e with NASA hpde 1, first time I've ever done it, my head is still in the clouds. Check me out scoopin up a Shelby gt500, it's at the 3 min mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mQWPdQ3xCo&feature=c4-overview&list=UUWuUloI4FYnG5ZPHBF-nvvQ
MVP runs a good event. I'll be at the november one as well in my e36 m3 track car. I ran with them last november and this past June as well. As others have said, it's a very laid back and fun group to run with. You will have a great time. I'm putting my money on high 40s for the 308. I have a few friends that use Harry's laptimer and it seems to be hit or miss. If you can't get it working, you can borrow my AiM SOLO for a session.
you lost me here.. When I lowered the car the camber became kind of positive. I actually had to put the forks on longer struts to allow for more shims... I think we talk different things here
I must have worded it strangely. The additional camber I gained from lowering wasn't entirely dialed out. I kept a bit more than stock after driving it once corrected to stock specs.
I'm probably going to run Harry's lap timer with an upgraded 10hz gps to make it work better. Thanks Chris, look forward to seeing you!
but that's were you lost me lowering a 308 will not gain camber (at least if you define gain as moving from plus to minus) but you actually loose camber. ( it will go from minus to plus) writing this down and re-reading it is indeed pretty strang loosing=more positive...)
you're exactly right. everything I said was backwards. I had my camber vernacular off hah. thanks Steven!
Hey guys. Disaster struck just a day before going up to tech inspection. The damage is actually not that terrible in my eyes as I enjoy doing this sort of thing. I made a video of my progress which I will post, but I spent the other day removing the 1-4 bank head. Here's what happened: Downshifted a few times checking brake dive and stability under trailbreaking, the camshaft locking tab on the 1-4 bank exhaust cam snapped, exhaust bolt backed out, cam cog came loose, cylinders 1,2,3 all had minor piston contact. I remain baffled by this as I used red loctite and torqued that bolt to 85lbs. The good news is nothing else was damaged so I'm just replacing the valves, the bad news is I missed my long anticipated track day. I had just changed the oil/fluids and was out checking final tune and suspension set up, which was perfect by the way. The head is already apart and the parts should arrived this week. It could have been worse.
Sorry to see this. I ended up spending most of the weekend in the paddock with the car up on jack stands myself. Only ran a total of 4 sessions over both days. Shame because the weather ended up being good. Oh well, such is life! See you out there next time
I saw the weather was perfect...... Just removed the valve guides this morning. Fun. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sent an exhaust cam to be case hardened, one of the lobes had me concerned. It was the lobe which had the worst bent valve. I'm sure what happened was that for the very short time the engine did run, that lobe was lacking oil combined with the valve it controls already being partially open thus forcing a higher initial lift force on what was practically the nose of the cam. that's bad, it looks like it knocked the case hardening off right at the tip as I've measured it compared to the other lobes and it's only .0015 off. Could have been worse
I agree - ran once with Chin at Homestead last year - was not impressed at all - did not like the attitude of several people including a pompous instructor I had the misfortune to be with - I've had coaches(pro drivers) who would make the instructor look like a complete amateur and he actually thought he was hot s**t
Hahaha! I DO understand that... I do some work with clients at Chin and the track time is good. Especially the 90 minutes at the end of the day ("Happy Hour") when my client and I can try several different drills, separated by short briefings. A good use of our time together.
