He'd be crazy to go there and he be the #2 driver. I don't see this, could I be wrong? McLaren admit interest in Alonso; Perez at risk | MotorSportsTalk
He would absolutely be the #1 driver on the McLaren team. While the press is saying Perez is at risk, I believe Button is the one who currently doesn't have a contract. McLaren's admission would suggest that there is no negotiation currently happening for the seat.
He won't be #2 driver. And Mclaren has a history of letting their drivers fight it out until it is very clear there's a team leader (ie the other guy is mathematically out of the title). Several have said Alonso is angry looking in the paddock this weekend. Oh joy!
I would say everyone is interested in Alonso. He's the best there is. He'll stay with Ferrari and see where they are next year. If the car is way off the pace, all bets are off for 2015. Having said that, he'd rather stay and win the championship with Ferrari, for both historical reasons and financial reasons once he retires. It's one thing to be world champion, it's another to be one with Ferrari. Kind of like the Yankees and baseball. You remeber when they win the championship, but ask who won last year?
According to TifosiUSA I'm not really allowed to make obvious statements unless I know Alonso personally. So yes.
Somehow I can't see him going back to McLaren. I think he'll stay at Ferrari unless he can get a Red Bull drive at some point in the future. All the best, Andrew.
Just in listening to Whitmarsh's actual comments, I think he's speaking to Alonso through the media. I don't think there is something currently being negotiated behind the scenes. With the changes coming next year, it wouldn't appear to be a prudent move to leave a manufacturer like Ferrari, however I've seen enough smoke to fairly assume that the Alonso/Ferrari relationship is troubled. It appears more and more (imo) that the hiring of Kimi was more about proactively planning for Alonso's potential departure as opposed to sending any kind of message.
+1 This article is a whole lot of smoke. There's the silly season.... and then there are silly stories.
+1 I guess Ron would be apoplectic! It's just Whitmarsh stirring the pot IMO. Freds latest comments (edited) Silly season indeed..... Just watched FP2 and the NBC boys were trying to play it up too - Guess there's not much else to talk about. Cheers, Ian
Whitmarsh is very cagey about this on camera. There just might be more to this than appears. He said they are open to driver changes on SKY. The SKY team were interested in Martin and what he did not say. No denial of an approach being made...interesting...
Again, I could be very, very wrong (!), but I'm convinced it's just Whitmarsh having some fun with these silly, never ending, questions. I've never met the guy, but apparently he has quite the sense of humor - May as well stoke the fires and see what shakes out. Then have a good laugh over a beer. Cheers, Ian
As I said somewhere else, I'm a little surprised they haven't (publicly anyway ) confirmed him yet for next season. Wouldn't surprise me at all if when the announcement comes it's revealed that he actually re-signed months back and they're just jerking some chains with the delay. My moneys on 'em staying the same next season. [But, then my money was on McHam staying too, so what do I know?! ] Cheers, Ian
Or he's motivating Perez. ''You are replacable'' At Mclaren. Deal is done, signing this week. It was a formality really . - Papa Ron did say after Alonso left that he wouldnt be surprised if Alonso came back at one point.
Latest from autosport, my emphases added.... According to the boys, it's all a done deal..... Cheers, Ian Perez not worried about McLaren future despite Alonso talk - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/109983 ----- Perez not quite a done deal. Soon but door i open it seem to others. FA to Macca in 15???? Great BBC link on this! Ferrari turbo motor issues as well?? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula-one/24171278
No, Vettel is the best there is He scored points in his first race, as a fill-in driver at age of 19; won the first & only race for Minardi/STR and then won 3 WDC in a row in convincing fashion. In a few weeks he will confirm his fourth WDC. Alonso will be forgotten as one of many 2 time WDC, a man more famous for the number of championships he has lost vs. won. ***** about the cars all you want, SB is the best driver in the field today.
