This has happened to more than a few ferraris.

Atlanta Knights hockey player died a few years ago in a wreck and his ferrari split in half just like this.

I believe it's a safety thing to cut the fuel line and prevent fire.

It's to take a fender bender and turn it into a total --- another car sold!

No seriously, they are designed to do this. Its for the passengers protection. At least the car didn't tip over. Those damn Lambo doors don't open upside down.

Atlanta Knights? WTF? Are you referring to Danny Heatley's crash of his Ferrari 360 that killed a fellow player, Dan Snyder?

He played for the Thrashers, now the Winnipeg Jets.

Anyone notice that the sedan caused the accident?

Absolutely. There's a running thread in the Lambo section. No one was hurt but the guy in the black sedan was an idiot for not watching before turning. If it were a motorcyclist he hit, we'd be talking about a funeral.

That's the rear subframe that split off not the cabin monocoque btw, so yes, that part is designed to split off upon impact.

And it's the safest thing there is. You want the cabin monocoque to stay as intact as possible.

That's also just how its constructed. The rear subframe and engine are just bolted onto the monocoque. So, in an accident they just separate. Veyrons - most supercars these days - are built that way.

One less here from the big news story in Malibu from several years back that went viral world wide when Stefan Eriksson wrapped his Enzo around a pole that split on half. He went to the big house on this one on all sorts of charges after walking away with only a few scrapes and bruises.

By THE BIG HOUSE can I assume you mean: the hoosegow, clinker, and slammer?
