Yes, fortunately there was no collateral damage. Darn tranny didn't want to shift into various gears under various circumstances. Thought it was a shifter bushing problem at first. Kinda relieved that it's only a clutch. Still hate it.

Wow, that's scarry! Any idea how many miles on that clutch? Were you engaged in "spirited" driving at the time, or just crusin' down the block?

I managed to do the similar thing to my BMW which I used to learn driving stick shift :) (not saying you've practiced to learn how to drive manual tranny using your Ferrari) :)

Should have timed it a little better Bruce. Could have worked on it at the Stooge BBQ last weekend. Not to rain on your parade, but my car is running great again (for now anyway). Hope you get her fixed up soon.

Yes, clutch was refaced 3/21/06 at 58,646 miles. Currently at 76,791. Spirited is a nice way to put it.
Glad your car is running great. Not the kind of thing we could have done at the stooge-in, as it'll take a few days to have the discs relined. Barbara gets nervous when a strange Ferrari stays at her house for more than a few hours!

Can't say as I blame her. My most recent issue took my car out of service right by my daughter and son-in-law's house. I had to work on it in their garage over the next few days. Hope your AAA membership is paid up...

Those radial streaks look like oil contamination - weakened the material?

Bruce , a little off topic but maybe you can help as you have the clutch disassembled here.

I had posted about a ratlling noise that I believe is coming from the drivetrain (not 100% sure). Here is the link to that thread.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/419762-what-noise-any-help-appreciated.html

You had replied in that and I did get a stethoscope and I am still not sure or unsure that where it is coming from.

TR512 replied in that thread that had experience with a similar noise coming from a failed bearing in the clutch assembly and offered part numbers, etc.

I am tempted to take off the bumper and explore this as being my issue. ARe you familiar with the bearing that he is talking about and if you haven't reassembled your clutch yet would you mind taking some pics of it?

    Thank you in advance.
    Bob

Try putting "Ferrari 348 flywheel bearing" in google. There's some pictures and info on that bearing from various sites.
