Just received my set of poly skid plates from Ricambi. Anyone have a pic of theirs installed so I can see the proper placement? Also any installations tips would be appreciated!

Bump! Anyone? Should I mount with 3M tape and not the screws?

Are you experiencing problems and grounding the front? Personally I'm not a fan of skid plates and wouldn't fit them on my F cars - they actually lower the car and cause a larger impact. 3M for sure if you need the protection.

I had them on my 355 and I felt they were absolutely necessary. I just got this car delivered with the underside of the bumper professional repaired and it is now perfect. I think the 1/4' or so it lowers the car is negligible. Wasn't a problem with the 355 which definitely saved my bumper more than once. Driveways are my biggest concern. Especially at gas stations. You don't always have the time to come in at a 45 degree angel as most gas stations are located on busy roads and there is fast moving traffic behind you. I know these pads are controversial but I am one the guys that believes in installing them. If they get damaged they are easily replaceable.
I am opting for the 3M tape mount though. Just don't know which tape is best.

I use my 430 daily(don't ever race it) and the skid plates are a must have. When I got the car they were already attached(Ricambi)with metal screws into the undersiside of bumper. They are black externally but when they take a hit the underlying plastic is a grey-white in color and every week I am under the bumper touching it up with black paint so I don't see the reminder that I should have slowed down going over that incline!! I would think that 2 sided tape would not be able to take many hits without coming loose/off??
The under side/inside of the bumper is no thing of beauty! Its unpained fiberglass and I dont see the issue of putting metal screws through it and the unscuffed plates look better then the bumper- but they will not be unscuffed for long.
What can be the controversy-disposable plastic plates vs. schredded fiberglass??

The plates are a few mm thick and while they do lower your car a few mm (in ground clearance), that is far outweighed by the protection they provide and the ease atwhich they can be replaced / repaired when damaged. When, not if.

As for looks? I did not even realize my F430 had plates until the celebration car show when Anzir pointed them out to me. Funny. So they are not that noticeable.

I say get the plates. Bolt or doublestick. If you use doublestick, use 3M Red VHB 4910 (I trust that stuff with my life, no really). But with doublestick, removing them to resurface, repaint, or replace will be a pain.

Only reason I am thinking the double stick is ease of installation. I don't have a lift and working upside down sucks. I want to be sure I get the placement right. My 355 had them screwed in which are much easier to replace if needed. Decisions, decisions. Any chance one of you guys can take a pic of the underside of a 430 so I can see exactly where they should be placed? Looks like a no brainer as far as the shape goes, but they can be moved side to side a couple of inches and still look correct.

I have them on my 360 and they have taken the odd scrapes instead of the bumper. The bumper is perfect, they have the scuffs. I say get 'em.

I think there was a thread on here where someone was talking about skid plate from Boardwalk Ferrari. They were even speaking about using 3m tape successfully. They seem to have a bigger coverage area. I just purchased a 430 spider as well and I'm interested to get something too. Good luck. P.S. I also traded up from a 355 spider. Lol

Yes. That thread is a 360. I kind of figured out the placement by the shape of the skid plate. I just wanted to be sure I don't attach them too far back towards the tires. It would really help if I could have a pic!!!! Hint, hint!!!

Congrats on your upgrade BTW Jeff. I remember you on the 355 forum. Enjoy!

Lol. Cool thanks maybe we'll meet one time at a C&C or something. Good luck with yours as well. Did you go with the tape?

Now that I'm looking at it, I think it will be much easier to mount with tape. I really don't know where the jack point is on a 430 and I'm afraid to do damage. Also the whole front under tray has to come off. Now I just need to find out where I can get this 3M Red VHB 4910 double sided tape. I doubt Home Depot will have it.

The 3m is fine for this application. Be aware that a hard hit will cause you to lose the plate. but that's just the cost of doing business, right? The good news about the tape is that you can mount yourself ASAP rather than a bolted application. The tape is def strong enough for most situations but be prepared to replace one if a bad hit leaves one on the road. These have saved my car from routine scrapes in parking lots and driveways and so I definitely think they are worth mounting. Just get underneath and see where previous hits have left a mark and mount accordingly. Let that be your guide.

I have had the skid plates mounted with 3M tape and they have never come off.

I have had some pretty hard hits and they survived so the 3M tape should be fine.

Put them on and you will see the benefits almost immediately.

I will try and take photos later for you.

No hit marks yet! Just took delivery last week and they fixed any scrape marks under the bumper and resprayed it perfectly.

I have an F430. These pics help a lot. Thanks! It seems much easier to mount with the tape. I can't jack up the car on both sides and the bottom under tray is bigger than I thought. I'm going to see if I can find this 3M tape locally or I will just order it on the net. Do any retailers carry it? I checked Home Depot and they don't carry the VHB 4910 tape.

Just use Amazon, if you have prime, its two day shipping (free) and no tax.

$35 for a lifetime supply. I am still using my first roll from a few years back. You never realize how many DIYs home/auto needs the stuff, until you have it.

    3M VHB Heavy Duty Mounting Tape 4910 Clear, 3/4 in x 15 yd 40.0 mil (Pack of 1): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

As far as jacking up both sides at once, you had better solve this issue because you will need this for many DIYs. One low profile aluminum floor jack $100-200, and 4x jack stands and you are moving in the right direction. Throw in two wheel ramps, heavy duty, so you can get the bottom panels off.
    1. Jack side A
    2. Insert jack stand under front jack point
    3. Insert wheel ramp under rear wheel
    4. Remove jack from side A
    5. Remove belly pan
    6. Insert extra jack stand under side A (just in case)
    7. Repeat on side B.

Yikes! That scares me. But I will buy a low profile floor jack. I have the ramps. I'm going to order the VHB tape from Amazon and give that a whirl. I guess I just have to put multiple strips of tape on to cover the entire skid pad. Seems easy enough. Thanks for the pics Trent. They really help a lot.

Done!!! Took your advise and signed up for Amazon Prime. Got the tape two days later. This tape is awesome. So strong. There is no way this plate is coming off. Appreciate the advise.

PUT THE SKIDS ON ASAP! They are cheap and if you use 3M tape, the install is quick and easy. Its far cheaper than a bumper off respray.

Do they have these for the scud? The website says its for the 430 only, not the scuderia.
