Jumper battery was probably needed as battery was low or too small, Carbs could have been set wrong. A bit later I saw it running at Lime Rock and it was running ruff and too lean. The Tail pipes were IMO way too white. If it's set up too lean it's harder to start.

Jim - in the papers you mention a label of '0846' on the firewall. Do you have any pictures of this? Also, are the differences in the welds (per different artisans) obvious to the untrained eye? Could you add pictures of that into the papers? I understand that the vehicle was the victim of several accidents and that the repairs on the chassis of your car corroborates this. However I think it is a little difficult to visualize. Do you have any general pictures of the bare frame where you could indicate the individual accidents and the subsequent repairs? I'm envisioning the sort of highlighting you did with the engine mounts, etc.

I know this is a lot of work, and as a casual observer it's obviously not that important (especially as I believe the evidence presented more than satisfies my questions regarding the car's origins), but the 0846 papers whetted my appetite.

Congratulations again on a great find and a beautiful car.

    Peter

    Hi

There will be a final version at some point and I'll try to include what you've asked for but the accident damage, welds, and repairs are very easy to see in the metal and all are welcome to inspect them for themselves at Quail in a few weeks.

Car and Driver had a very detailed inspection in addition to studying all of the evidence and their description and article about 0846 in their September issue IMO speaks for it's self.

Jim, excellent article about both of your cars in Car & Driver Magazine, I didn't realize you also owned the Yellow Ford GT40. Quite a collection.

They are in peace now, but I'm still pretty sure that the yellow one was created only because a few people got pissed off...

That was nice of you to say so (in so nearly many words) Art.

Well, thanks to Rob, and Jim's generous input .... I'm back. :)

As I have discussed with both of them, I have absolutely NO intention of wading back into the '0846 Debate'.

(I'd like to at least finish this subscription period) .... But I'll try instead, to contribute constructively, where I can. ;)

(As Jim will hopefully confirm, we've traded some pleasant and informative emails over the last year or so).

Seeing as there don't seem to be that many photos available of Jim's P4 at 'The Quail' last week ....

Here's a couple of nice ones taken by the same person (wearing the red Ferrari polo shirt) in the 'Autospies.com' photo.

Well - the 'unofficial' one, anyway - as produced by Steve Austin (http://steveaustinsautomobilia.com/new_page_1.htm)

.... and painted by the British motoring artist – Nicholas Watts. ;)

I found this photo of the ‘Monterey 2007’ poster in the 'Pebble Beach Concours Week 2007 Pics' thread, posted by 'PhilNotHill'

    Thanks, Andreas ! :)

.... and for all your help and support while I was 'away'. ;)

I won't be spending anywhere near as much time as I used to on FChat (.... 'too many irons in the fire', nowadays),
.... but it will be nice to be able to post useful input, again, instead of having to ask other members to do it for me,
.... or just thinking 'Doh !' to myself, as I have done on a few occasions lately. :(

.... and to you, too, Art .... especially for that (unintentional) lead into this thread. ;)

Welcome back! Quail is a very interesting event and gets more so each year. The 18 (?) PF Cab Exhibit was amazing. The problem is that it sells out early and once sold out it is sold out. There was a lot of Press there that took a lot of photos of 0846 and J6 and as it comes in I'll post links.

Other than a single thread in GFD, I've actually been pretty surprised at the lack of pics in general from the whole weekend. Bring on the pics/links!

I know it's a 'rival' forum, but Richard Owen and Dirk de Jager have 700+ really super hi-res photos in their two galleries:

    See: http://www.*************/gallery/119513/1484/1.html

    and: http://www.*************/gallery/119513/1502/1.html

None of Jim's P3/4 at 'The Quail', though, sadly. I've already looked. :(

    Thanks, Bryan. :)
