Here is a photo I came across while searching for old race photos. Nice clear picture of the tire failure at Targa Florio 1967.

Um........not a tyre failure - Nino had slid sideways into a high kerb on a left-hand hairpin, mangling the right-hand wheels and putting an impact across the rear of the chassis that buckled a bracing tube on the left of the engine bay.

Remember that book you told me about? I got a copy. There's great shots of the factory in 67 including 0856 being fueled and the spyder tails that were mounted on 0856 and 0858 later at Brands Hatch. One of those tails (0858's) is now on 0846.

On page 76 there's a nice photo of Jacky Icks and me at the French Grand Prix.

I have that book too... Very nice. That's one of my favorit photos with the tails.
Photo below is David PIPER's car at the Nürburgring in 1984. Tired front!

The next year the local "tifosi" did paint a white warning on the wall of same hairpin, : " NINO, pay attention here..."

One of my favs so far. The pic with the tails. Watch the red stones underneath the freshly painted tails. Stunning!

Having humped both 0846 and P 4/5 through those roads it's not surprising to me that both Nino and Lorenzo had a spot of trouble up there as they were driving a bit faster than I was. Thinking about Nino storming a 512S through that course is pretty amazing.

I love the encouragement being offered by the local authority! I wonder if any of the lads found a similar response on the roads of Sonoma.

What was it that Henry Manney said about the 66 Targa pre race buzz in R&T.....

"Local boy Nino Vaccarella is going to drive a big motherguts Ferrari down a street that is only two Fiats wide!"

I think you'll find that the guy holding the sign is possibly Geoff Goddards' assistant. Not 100% sure though?

.I should look first. My mind automatically jumped to a pic i have seen on the same bend with someone else giving the drivers some passing assistance and encouragement.

Paul reminded me of one of my first posts on FCHAT and the photo I posted apropos of the thread about first posts on FCHAT.

Strangely I think it shows something interesting.

If you study the photo you can clearly see that the chassis tube that I believe replaced the the fire damaged right side angled chassis tube is a bigger diameter than the opposite side angled tube which I believe is original. You can also see the kink and repair in the opposite side angled smaller diameter chassis tube that I believe was damaged it 67 Targa crash.

You can also clearly see the P4 bushing that shortened the wheelbase from P3 2412mm to P4 2400mm, The P3 bushing and both the P3 and P4 motor mounts.

I must stress that I'm in no way implying that Paul reminded me of that photo for any reason except for the thread on First Posts on FCHAT: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176441 or that he in any way agrees with me but I honestly had forgotten about that photo and as it does show the stripped chassis I think it's interesting.

That cop has more guts than I have. He is standing in a rather stupid place, IMO
