I warm my car up for 3 days and nights.. then i dont drive it... Just kidding this thread has become a joke at this point IMHO
considering these are your two contributions to the thread I would say if anything was a joke, it would be...
What would it be Rob?? You have a clear policy of no bickering, name calling, negative post, etc. but this thread is littered with them.. Dave had a relevant post i believe, for which i replied that i warm my car up for around 10 mins, with my joking about constantly being worried about opening it up until its warm... Then i sift through pages and pages of people tearing each other apart then apoligizing for being "type A" or "agree to disagree".. the thread is not longer constructive to those that wanted to hear Dave's opinion and those who actually want to contribute a first hand constructive opinion.. So thank for also being a stand up guy on this one, you've shown your colors clearly where as i was just kidding around
For the record i have nothing BUT good intentions on this site, reference it regularly to ppl to want to buy, are interested in ferraris, want info on service, etc.. but you are out of line with your statement above regardless of your admin capacity.
your statement was out of line simply for fact that FerrariChat is about sharing information and learning. OP shared information and EVERYONE is trying to learn. you post negatively about the thread, well you certainly have the right not to care for the thread, so just go about your business and let the rest of us enjoy it.
I think Chris made a good point about the overall attitude that often comes around these threads and I think this place would be alot better without it. I personally know several users that never post becuase of this very reason. Words like "stupid" don't belong here....
SO that gives you the right to call me a joke? See i'm of the camp of lead by example.. My it warms up for 3 days comment was just that a joke, and there is probably a dozen replys embedded that have nothing to do with "sharing information & learning"..so i was just making a point of that, nothing more. i've already spent too much time on this i just say youre the head of the site, speak respectfully to your peers, and ppl who contribute to your site in a generally positive way.. end of story. Or keep doing what your doing and dont pipe up when ppl follow your lead.. PS--i've already gotten about 15 emails to my private account from ppl who agree with me but don't want to upset the big bad site admin..
After I make post #37 I was surprised by the number people who contacted me. There is a very large underground of people who are members here that would love to post and contribute what they can to this board but they do not because they are sick of being treated like ... by the "alpha" personalities. It's pretty sad the way this is turning out. I thought this post would have been locked and over long ago.
..stupid doesn't exactly come to mind, but another adjective does Your thread title is at issue, you state 10-15mins warm up is an absolute must yet provide subjective impression support your statement. I know that this is one of the rare F1 355 but folks that have owned similar cars are actually trying to help you rather than let your create some myth. Sure a warmed up car drives better than cold, but modern cars do not need a 10-15mins idle warm...Idling a car for longer periods of time will tend to clog the egr valve, and cause pooling of oil in the intake none of which are good on the long term. Certainly, it's your car and your money, but you are not giving sound advice to other members. BTW, what do you do if you need to go to for a quick errand? Do you have a graph that relates garage temperature to warm up time as presume it varies based on temp differential?
This is the way it is on Fchat. It is the wild west of internet boards with 20,000 personalities which is what makes it entertaining to read. The key to survival on Fchat is to say you piece and check out and resist the temptation to stoop to a lower level, which I have been guilty of myself. Caught up in the moment as it were. If you are "right you are right" and that is all that really matters. Experience is gained by hard fought battles with many scars of life. Those who don't learn from others are welcome to experience the pain for themselves first hand.
If you had read the thread, I explained the title. If you have nothing positive to offer, please move along....
Nobody needs to be called stupid or an idiot. I don't think the thread title is out of line and inflammatory and I honestly doubt anyone will damage their car by letting it sit and idle, especially given the relatively low mileage oil change intervals on these cars and the fact that you need to let them sit and idle for 10 minutes any time you disconnect the battery. I don't think it's the best thing for the car, but if it makes them more enjoyable, go for it.
Thanks for the post Pete, much appreciated. This thread has really discouraged me from contributing to this forum. As I mentioned prior, my title was written out of excitement of the positive experience I had warming up the car via a longer idle. Looking back, as I already said, I can see how it could be interpreted to "do what I say" and if anyone's read the posts in the thread they can clearly see I did not mean it that way. What surprises me is that these cars are expensive and I would have assumed that people that can afford them would be a much more mature group but this thread has proved that wrong.
who is the one that posted title "10-15 minute warm up is a must!". you apologized later, but you still need to take credit. make a trolling title and you can expect certain kind of replies.
you are perfect example of pot calling the kettle black, come in calling the thread out when your posts were pinnacle of the problem and then to add icing you go for the classic trolling move pointing fingers back at the big bad admin and forum when called out.
Dave, stop pointing fingers back that I'm the problem or FerrariChat is the problem. Perfect example of how you are equally at fault for what you claim to be against is your response to tazandjan. He's one of the most respected users on FerrariChat and VERY technical, yet you throw him a response that I'm sure put him off and made him tune you out. When someone gives you good advice you don't blow him off because he doesn't have the exact same model you do. How many professional Ferrari techs own every single model they work on?
I really did not apologize and I really don't think I need to. The written word can be easliy mis read and if my explaination was not good enough, it proves the point how inmature some of the users on here are, Rob, admin or not, this does not exclude you. I've addressed the thread title several times and even asked you to change it but honestly, I think you like the drama...
I asked him an honest question. Different models will respond different ways, most would understand that..
STOP trolling for MORE drama, let's see how long you can go without posting on it. Everyone agrees this thread has been played out, we'll label anyone else that posts as just trolling for more drama or whatever you want to call it.
Trolling? I don't even know what that means, but whatever it is, you are doing it. As I stated, I posted to share an very positive experience - that's all. I was not asking or looking to be told that my experience was false and I'm wrong. If someone wanted to give it a try great, if they did not agree, that's fine too. Some said they agree, others don't and that's perfectly fine in my eyes.
you only made it 8 minutes, oh my that was even shorter than I expected. FYI, you are welcome to contact me offline, anyone is. I think this topic was ripe for the results even if you would have done the title better. Like religion topics everyone is passionate about their views, some are based more on science and logic while others are more based on feelings and if it works, why change. You aren't going to often convince others to change no matter how passionate you are about your view. KCCO.
