So I ran out of my B/P medicine this past Sunday and I phoned in my prescription yet I never received a courtesy call, which is the norm. So long story short the doctor denied my B/P refill because they want me to spend another $70 and visit them!! They are the ones who told me I will most likely be on these meds until the 'Lord calls me home' but every damn prescription from this office has always required their authorization. I told them to piss off. Frankly at this point I could care less and I know they will not be 'milking me' anymore for useless BS.

    Had to vent.

When was the last time you were in for a visit? How many refills were written on the original script?

So the doc should just prescribe the med in finitum without follow ups to assess progress or changes?

What a money grubbing charlatan there.

Glad you told them to piss off.

my grandfather nearly died when his new diet changed the effectiveness of his blood pressure/blood thinner medication, a regular follow-up is not just expected, but necessary

There are so many idiotic points in this post it is hard to know where to begin, but I'll take one for the team and try...
    1. You ran out...because you couldn't see there was only 1 pill left in the bottom of the bottle? Genius...or blind. But this is someone else's fault.
    2. The Doctor is using his psychic powers and knows what your BP is, and therefore knows whether or not to continue the same medication, or modify plan to achieve goal.
    3. Most scripts are written for 6 months, which means you haven't seen him for approx that period of time. Yep..sounds like you're being milked there cow-boy.
    4. He automatically knows your kidney function, again from his days working for psyops in the CIA, and whether or not the drug may need to be dose-adjusted.
    5. If you have some complication you'll be the first one calling lawyers to sue the " corrupt money grubber."
Hmmm...yep firing on all cylinders there.
Maybe you should try trading a "Rolex" for the office visit instead...might be worth the $70.

Let me share a story similar to yours. I know someone who was on BP medication for a few years. Switched medical plans and went to refill the BP prescription and the new doctor said that before he would do so, wanted to perform an exam. Patient went in for exam. High BP caused doc to order an EKG, which he didn't like. Nuclear stress test revealed four blocked arteries. Quintuple bypass surgery performed three weeks later. If it's been more than a year, go get examined.

Just further evidence of a "corrupt" medical profession. A quintuple bypass with "only" four blocked arteries? That extra bypass was clearly bill padding! ;) ;)

Kwitchyerbellyakin'. It could be worse. You might save $70.00 now, but in a few days, you'll give an arm and a leg . . .

Though I'd much rather be the one with High BP instead of my Bride having the affliction, I'm really glad missus wax goes to the Doc to monitor not just the BP, but the required dosage to help her, as this lets us spend more valuable time with one another.

Yep. It is amazing how often personal accountability is ignored by the patient who then goes off on the MD/their office staff.

Moronically stupid or full of cow patties? You decide...

Consider this from 2 months ago...

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/other-off-topic-forum/415910-i-had-feeling-today-would-not-average.html

So his mom's BP med stopped working... ends up in the ER... had a stoke last time... and he started a thread about it... yet he's forgotten the moral of the story...

    Moronically stupid or a fraud?

I'm on 3 different prescription meds and each one of them has a max of 6 months on it for refills.
This is what I consider the normal protocol for meds.

Even if you don't go in for an office visit, the doctor at least wants to talk to you on the phone.
The questions they ask are always about possible side effects or new symptoms.
Probably a really good thing to rule those out before continuing on the meds.

Yeah the doctor is totally corrupt, why should he want to see you? It is not like he is responsible for something that could have dire consequences.

I called in my blood pressure med refill. Pharmacy told me I needed to get it approved by my doctor. But my doctor had retired, so I went to the guy who took over his practice. Instead of the $70 mentioned in the original post, he charged me more than $250 for an office visit exclusively to renew an existing prescription. Office visit took less than 15 minutes. My insurance denied the claim (!?), so I got to pay it out of pocket! Should I be thankful for that?

its this type of thinking that is killing quality healthcare in this country.
doctors need to make very good salaries as do their support staff. nobody will care about you if they cant make the rent or put gas in their car. eeking out a living is hard for drs, especially when you see what the insurance companies are doing to reimbursements.
