    "For a car that weights 3,000kg "

I still don't understand where all the weight is , it must be in the suspension and structure.

The fibreglass and alloy body work couldn't weigh more than 500kg, engine 250kg, gearbox, transfer case and diff centres another 500kg.

Yes, there'd be at least 100kg of spray on sealant under the LM

    Taffy,
i am thinking your muffler was not completely stock...the silver box is different from the one i had seen on an italian LM

    good saving
but yes on a 3000Kgs car just a small pecentage

a diablo- countach exahust will save more or less the same Kgs on a much lighter car

We'll have to put the LM on a truck weighbridge when it's done

I missed the part about whether this car in Indonesia was in distress when it was found and bought but am willing to hear anyone's story about a rough LM002 that was bought when it was practically a derelict car and would-be customers were scared of tackling such a project. I will do a story on the car's finding and resurrection for the website VeloceToday.com. Two things I need to know if you are going to suggest an LM002 are approximately what was paid for it and what year it was found and bought.

By the way, isn't one of the biggest expenses in restoring one of these the tires? Are they in production anymore and if not, what is a substitute in the same size?

    Hi,

Yes the car is in Indonesia.
The tires are an absolute pain to find. Unless You are willing to pay $16k - $20k per set of five.
The nearest size is 315/70-17 or 35x12.5x17

No clue if this has ABS, but do NOT put DOT-5 in an ABS vehicle. To be on the safe side, stick with DOT-4.

    Thanks for the info.
    This car has no ABS.

But ... My E34M5 has .. and I just put DOT-5 about 300 miles ago.
Should I change it back to DOT-4 ?

I can't believe how quickly you got the little fella built! Looks really good. Are you going to make a mold - sell them on perhaps.....?

Would be the only way I could get my hands on one of these Lambos unfortunately - never seen one in these parts.

    Cheers

    Hi Mark,

I ordered the custom body from a nearby R/C Store.
It is not finished yet, still on finishing stage.
I should ask the guy to make a mold.

    Cheers,
    Taffy

I placed a post on Pistonheads, saying that I was thinking about a LM002, and I got a reply saying "go for it, and then get sterilized to stop the madness spreads", I still think that it would make a great project car. I am very impressed that you are taking that on as your first project, that is what I would call jumping in at the deep end, I wish you all the best with it.

    Thanks Nick :)

Yes this is quite a tricky car for a first project. To my best knowledge I have seen only one LM002 restoration project posted on the internet (the one in Lamborghini Wycombe UK). Lucky I got 3 of the best guys in the country helping me directly in this restoration. Plus a handful of knowledgeable and very helpful members of this board.

Yes, change it. ABS and DOT5 do not mix. DOT5 will likely break down in an ABS system due to the pressure and can cause total brake failure.

DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5.1 are fine. I usually run DOT4 MOTUL or ATE fluids.

used wrap in my mustang when switched to headers, it will keep more heat in, and in some cases will corrode and degrade the headers faster .....mine needed a bunch of the metal ties to hold properly in place, and even switched to wider band clamps when ties started to crack and break off, will also collect a bunch of debris in the folds of the header wrap ....IMO your better off to use the heat deflection insulation on the foot wells and transmission tunnel
