Fair point, out of interest, do you care the new vette's style(front end) is a blatant Ferrari knock off? Interested how ferrari owners feel about this or if they even care?

 

What's interesting about this is that just about everything else, except for Ferrari service, is much more expensive in the UK than it is the US.

 

Ferrari is pushing that warranty these days! The guys behind the gate read this-all of it-and they know anybody willing to spend the $$ on a new one will spend even more if it has a warranty. A the new ones really are solid enough for them to offer it

 

A lot of moving parts-more than ever on anything newer. Makes you wonder if any car manufacturer expects folks to restore their cars 40 yrs in the future. I still think the early 355s are right on the bubble electronics wise but any Fcar requires a big justification if you are going to open your wallet

 

I very much agree with this post as well. Having recently bought a late '97 F355 that was discounted for needing an engine out service, I'm amazed at the prices mentioned. My engine out major, with all parts, including a new water pump, reconditioned headers (in the UK!), all fluids and filters changed, all the stickies in the interior repaired, came out to $6,000. That includes the headers and interior. With the work done, I should have a clean car that can be used regularly and only need regular yearly maintenance (roughly $700).

Yes, things can go wrong, but there are great sites to buy parts from at reasonable prices (many in the UK). The trick is finding a good mechanic that knows these cars well and has a reasonable hourly rate.

 

Guys I have a question,so its too late to change but would love to knwo.I have stated that i just bought a 1998 F355 38800 miles for 50K.They had a 19Kservice work done at 38100 miles.
I will be receiving the car tomorrow and am very excited.Every time i get on this forum ,all i hear is complaints about it and almost saying dont drive it because it will cost you too much.So did i make a huge mistake in buying this car.Its my 1st Ferrari and i am/was very excited.Now im in fear .I bought it to drive it not park it.

 

It's a fantastic car, wonderful to drive and to look at. Once the major issues are sorted (headers, sticky plastics, occasional water pump failure, and a couple of others), the car should be pretty reliable and only made better by driving it!! I love mine and drive it as often as I can.

 

+1. They work better if you drive them, just don't let it sit.

 

It's a Ferrari but there are bigger wastes of money-ask anybody who's ever bought a big boat!

 

In 1999 when I bought my 86 Testarossa, all I heard was what a disaster it was going to be....melted fuse boxes, broken diffs, the most expensive Ferrari to own....fast forward 14 yrs later....and I still have the car, and doubled the miles ...has it been expensive ? It hasn't been cheap ....but I haven't had any of the disasters either.

Drive it thinking Ferrari, not mustang 5.0 , and do your maintence and exercise it regularly. You will find that it's a rewarding car when get past the flash .... It's a great experience. The fact you have a service done, work out the bugs as you go.

Cliches' can also get perpetuated by hearsay and other reasons. I'm not saying the engine out major isn't expensive. It's just something most people know going into the purchase. It shouldn't be a surprise is all I'm saying. A fair amount of the other items on his list seemed damage related.
