Hmm I am not sure why mine dont stick. Maybe I got sub-standard magnetic sheet. In fact they stick to the doors quite well but not the place where they are supposed to be. Or maybe its the 328s zinc coated steel being less magnetic.

Most aftermarket shields look like crapola.

If it didn't leave the factory with one, then it wasn't meant to be.

Either you have one of the ultra-rare vetroresina 328s, or your car has sustained severe front end damage and is now more Bondo than steel.

Nope none of that nonsense in there!

They dont really stick to any of the car very well, it must be the Zincrox steel is not very magnetic.

My 328 will never wear shields until she's with me... They don't belong to her and, IMHO, they would look a bit out of place...

I have shields on my current red car and they look good, however my prior cars consisting of 246,308,512 BBi, Testa did not as they were not part of the jewelry culture that now exists. I certainly would not put the add on's available as just don't look appropriate and do not add value to an option delete on purchase. On the 50,60's 70 cars most shields were non existent except for true race vehicles and many were just decals. I will say that a car today ordered with the option delete does reduce desirability. Just my opinion but have been with Ferrari since the early 70's.

My personal take on shields is that they belong on competition cars and the "specials" that have a direct link to competition programs or track use as their purpose. Cars like the CS, Scuderia, F40, F50, Enzo, etc. look good with the SF shields. On a car like the 612 or a California, it smacks of trying too hard. Cars that are more understated and elegant don't need any extra "look at me" badging.

Yeah, I turn up my nose at fake shields. I'm a to-each-his-own kind of guy, unlike the cranky oldsters who think only racing Ferraris should have them, but I draw the line at fake shields. They turn me off in the same way that bleach blond and tattooed girls do.

    Cheers,

    I agree with this^

    but not with this^

Yeah, an' I like my women just a little on the trashy side,
When they wear their clothes too tight and their hair is dyed.
Too much lipstick an' er too much rouge,
Gets me excited, leaves me feeling confused.
An' I like my women just a little on the trashy side.

Err mate,it's not cranky oldsters,it's history and tradition.

The shield thing is a marketing ploy by a company, that when taken over by FIAT('cos that's who you are buying your street car from)(and have been since 1970 ish),decided to 'up' the image(as it needed to.....not)of the most recognisable brand in motoring history(I stand to be slightly corrected on that...perhaps Rolls Royce, silver lady, could be included).

There's nuthin' wrong with bleached, blond hair either......:)

So are you saying my 458 Spider is NOT A RACE CAR?

You realize it has RACE mode on the steering wheel! :D

I love my shields. had em on the 360 Spider as well. factory only.

Well, you have your point and I have mine, that being, that was then, and this is now. I can sympathize, because I don't like Ferrari styling at all anymore. I have to go back to the nineties and oughts to find Ferraris I like. Putting my red 456M next to an FF feels somehow like abuse to me, the poor FF is so dog-bottom homely. But, it is what it is. Nothing I can do about it.

So, after I enjoy a 360 and a 612, I'm going to get a McLaren MP-4 12C or perhaps an Aston-Martin. They are still making beautiful cars, Ferrari aren't. And none of them have shields. HA!

    Cheers,

    George

I had them for a few years on my 328 then took them off. They're beautiful but there's too much Ferrari sign/logo/insignia on the car (front grille, front panel, tire valve caps, center wheel caps, on each side mirrors, and on the rear) and these are all original/stock.

Did you have any issue with paint color underneath? My car came with shields when I bought it, and as far as I can tell they have been there a very long time. I would fear that if I remove them I'd have a slightly different color red underneath due to different sun aging the paint around the shield.

I certainly don't mind mine but they would look a little better if I renewed/replaced them.

NO paint issue underneath at all. I had the shield for about 7-8 years. (Surprisingly easily removed with dental floss.)

No issue here either. The only visible marks were a series of very tiny scratches around where the shield was, probably caused by the airflow over the shield, which I polished out.

    With shields.

You can be a real traditionalist and say only racing-ferraris should have shields, but with shields it looks a lot better and has a touch of a better resale value too in my opinion. So long as they were factory-included.

Traditionalist: No, shields are not for road cars, therefore even if is on a 599 GTO, I would go the extra mile in removing it.
    Me: Shut up.

Shields are symptomatic of the more poseur-ness of these cars in recent years. Nothing wrong with that, so long as you are up front that you are posing.

My car came with them and I have never moved them. My car previously belonged to Yoshi, who manufactured the Yoshield, so I view it as a part of the history of the car.

For those who dont know, the Yoshields are the highest quality aftermarket shield out there. They are full metal badges that are contoured to fit the curve of specific Ferraris, so the ones for a 308 would likely not fit on a 360 for example.

I heard a rumor that he wasnt making them any longer, but I dont know if thats true or not.

I also know that Yoshi traded in this 308 for a black 355. So, he still has a Ferrari as far as I know.

This. I would never bolt screw or glue shields onto a car that did not have them. Painting them however is what the Scuderia did for many years (and basically still do with adhesives) on the race cars before they got a fussy embedded emblem to charge people extra to stick on their road cars.
