MASSA DOESN'T SUCK

He needs to go to a team that really needs his experience at Ferrari.

 

Starts 5th on the grid and ends up 10th. Lousy

Alonso was behind him and ended up 4th. good drive for Fred.

Lotus can get a better driver than Phil regardless IMVHO.

 

Talking of keeping Massa in F1 is like needlessly prolonging the life of a dearly loved elderly pet who really should be allowed to pass on. His time has come and gone. Nobody wants to see him being schooled in a mid/tail end car by his team mate and the rest of the field. The sport needs fresh blood, not old dogs.

 

i really feel for massa especially since he lost the title in brazil when timo glock went wide for no apparent reason. also, wasnt that the year piquet intentionally crashed and massa lost some points?
maybe that was the undoing of massa more than the head injury?

Disagree. He's had plenty of time to get over it.

 

Glock did a miracle by staying out that long on a wet track. He deserved a medal for not caving in earlier.

Massa could have won that year if he had made one less mistake. He lost a few races because of his own fault.

That he didn't win the WDC was only just karma as the FIA gifted him already a 14 points swing.

While on paper it looks like he narrowly missed out, in reality it wasn't even close.

People always enjoy kicking the looser when he´s already lying on the ground but let´s give credit when it´s due: even without debateable sanctions he was reeally close. Without the problem with the hose and the engine bang at the last lap at Hungary he would be a world champion and Hamilton would be just another "eternal promise that not delivers".

But sh*t happens and he´s not world champion.

P.S: playing the game of the "what ifs", now just imagine that Massa was world champion in 2008 and that he got killed in 2009 in the infamous spring incident. Right now Felipe Massa would have some sort of legendary status. Just a reminder of the capricious nature of history.

 

There are no IF and BUTS about it, that bastr'd Mosley fixed it, he hated Dennis and near enough brought F1 to it's knees with his ridiculous over the board room table result fixing.

If Massa had won that year it would have been an absolute joke and made a total mockery of the rules in the highest order.

That being said it was not Massa's doing, so it is not a question of kicking him when he was down, he was a victim of the circumstances.

 

Not in my book. He'd be simply the most undeserving WDC of all times. And dead.

 

Instead he'll pass to history as not fast enough for either of the two.

As I´ve said, remove the hose and engine screw ups (not Massa´s fault after all) and Hamilton´s penalties and Massa still would be champion.

Undeserved? Maybe... but not more than 99% of the champions of modern Formula 1.

Just to make it clear, I´ve stated earlier in this thread that Massa sucks. But credit where is due: Massa didn´t suck in 2008 (well, most of the time).

 

Kimi phoned it in. Massa picked up the lead and made some good history for the team. Nothing wrong with that at all. Is he that good now? No but the hate is simply sad and hilarious here. Its beyond rational at all. Hate Felipe call LdM and vent on him instead. He kept him around.

An honest question: Is English your second language? No one here is wishing ill will on Massa and no one hates the guy as a person. I think he's one of the nicest guys in the paddock. He's just not a good F1 driver anymore. I'm not sure where you are pulling all this crap from (wishing death, hating him, etc.). You repeat it all the time but I've never seen anyone post anything along those lines.

 

As much as I'd love to think that he wuz robbed the truth is Hamilton won the WDC fair and square.

 

Im not sure of that Hamilton is a whiner, I may be missing something but Massa always seems like a gentleman, in sport to me that is important, its not how you win but how you lose that shows character...... BTW Did you hear Vettel's frantic radio messages about being blocked near the end of JGP, he's 60 points ahead in the WDC and cant handle back markers. IMHO that is why people boo him. I know it off topic but I think Webber could have won that race easily. They have Vettel set up as the new by wonder and cant deviate from the script, wish Webber or Grosean would have won...... Boy I miss Mansell....

Not matter what Phil always seems to be having fun. Something lost on many of his fellow racers.

 

He was anything but a gentleman when he won the Spanish GP. He was taunting the Spanish fans and Alonso. Poorest form of sportsmanship I saw in a while.

 

Because a 14 points swing is such a massive manipulation of the championship that you can literally rewrite the history books of F1.

Depends on the definition of "undeserved" but if you go strictly by points (in my book the measure of all things and by what WDCs are defined) not true either:
While I went through the stats of the past 60+ years of F1 I was able to swap the above examples of WDCs and there were more, but: There are a lot more WDCs who even with a points swing of 14 to their runner ups would still have become WDC. For instance MS would have a lost a few titles but still be the all time multiple WDC leader with 4 titles. Cream rises to the top.

I guess everyone will have a diferent opinion, to me it´s quite simple, form 2006 to 2009 Massa was always improving, and i firmly believe in 2008 and 2009 he was the best driver out there. Kimi proved in 2005 he was the fastest, so when Shumy left he was by far the most talented guy out there. in 2007, massa came very close to him, in 2008 he betered him, and they where very close in 2009, pehaps with sligh advantage form massa...after Hungry you can forget about it, he was no where near the front. I like him a lot but he hasn´t been good enough for Ferrari for a while...there are races where he is almost as good as prior to his accidnt but he has lost all consistency and these are very rare.

Results vs finished races

Massa had the best hit-rate of points per race of the races he finished.

So, basicly Massa was a better driver in the races he finished but he finished less than hamilton. why?

First race Ferrari had ECU problems because they had (like everyone else) to use the Mclaren ones, wich lead to a DNF for Massa when he was recovering positions and in the points.

second race Mass was 2º but he lost the car..his fault


Monaco was leading confirtably when a safety car took out his advantage, and a bbad strategy loaded him with fuel making him loose 2º place to Kubica..instead, Hamilton who was far behind crashed and blew up a tyre, and he was so lucky than a safety car after he managed to change tyres give him the win and the race victory!!!

canada...Lewis chashed against Kimi, and another mistake from the team probably costed massa the win..he came for fuel but the machine didn´t work, he had to came a second time and found himself in 15 Th position...made a great recovery..

Germany...Could have won, but again a mistake from his team robbed him the win, Ferrari forgot to remove something from the air ducts for the front wheels, and massa was in serious trouble by the end of the race with poor brakes, he had no chance to defend himself against hamilton nor had the chance to atack nelson piquet for second place.

HUngry..well doninated the entire race but engine blew just at the end..another 10 points thrown away...

Singapur..leading from pole...another **** from the team...probably more 10 points in the gutter

So...Massa lost a lot more points due to car failures and team mistakes than by his own fault, and under norma circustances he would have won long befre Brazil.

 

Spa. Massa didn't win, Hamilton did, Massa would have been third behind Kimi if Kimi hadn't crashed fighting Hamilton for the lead.

Mosley had his lap dog, Allan Donnelly, make up new rules on the spot to justify penalizing Hamilton and taking away the win and handing it to Massa. There was no rule requiring Hamilton wait until after the following corner before re-overtaking Kimi; it was totally illegitimate to use such a rule to justify removing the win. Hamilton did return the place to Kimi as required by the actual rules, Kimi was going faster at that point when Hamilton slowed to let him pass, then Hamilton used the greatly superior traction of the McLaren tires at that point in the race vs. Kimi's worn out tires to re-pass.

Mosley was on a witch hunt to get McLaren, and this was a perfect opportunity to punish them. It wasn't about the racing - "Chief Steward" Donnelly didn't ask the other stewards what to do, he took the phone call from Mosley and then decided on his own to penalize Hamilton.
