I'm not sure how anyone who listens to the v6 next to the v8, v10, or v12 could say that the v6 sounds "good" or any other positive statement. The shrieking of the gods comes to an anticlimactic end in 2014. RIP F1.

When you realize that it´s not going to rev up more you have a sort of coitus interruptus.

But it is what it is, we´ll get used to it soon.

Sounds fine to me, I reckon it will be a force to be reckoned with, that Honda lump.

+1 It will sound alot better in real anger on a circuit. F1 had 4cyl turbo's before and amazingly the world still turned and champions crowned!! :)

F1 could run a 3 cylinder and people would still watch, doesn't mean it's an improvement.

I don't just HATE this sound, but it's a far cry from the good stuff. Oh well, nothing we can do about it now. I'm also not convinced the Honda engine will be all that great, their V10s and V8s were never the cream of the crop.

We'll see Steve. Honda's V8 wasn't that good. Their biggest hurdle will be that they never developed the KERS system, but perhaps McLaren will assist with that. I wonder how much information they will get from McLaren about the Mercedes engine.

Hmmm, I do hope that it sounds better at the tracks, but to me it sounds as if the
engine runs out of juice at high revs. What that on 7 gear at the end?

Sounds fine to me although I still think they should have gone with a TT setup. Video #2 had me desperately wanting another Play Station.

agree. Their last F1 engines weren't that great, what makes this infinitely more complicated engine destined for greatness?

Ferrari ran V6s in F1 from what, '58 through '62 (and were almost unbeatable in '61), and somehow the world kept turning.

The Honda engine sounds a lot like my large Dewalt drill. I listen the this video occasionally on YouTube while I am reading the news. There is no comparison:

Yes. I'd love to see the current teams at Ferrari / Red Bull / McLaren / Mercedes / etc go at it with modern unrestricted v12's...

Even though the 1.5ltr V6's of the last turbo era were the most powerful?

Actually the "shrieking of the gods" came to an end with the demise of the Ferrari 412 T2.

    True

And true. this new Honda does not sound good, it does sound like an appliance. But you have to wait till they race before final judgement. And Honda was the best at the Turbo game before so it might perform very well.
