Black is the most readable in all lights, then yellow and red. White is good only in certain lights.
Yellow is the nicest though IMO

For a Rosso exterior, yellow tech is my 1st choice, red is 2nd.

It is a Ferrari, styling is the highest priority :)

For a functional Porsche or McLaren, I want white tech.

Right about the LEDs. The engine spools up so quickly in the lower gears that the tach is basically irrelevant. But for the FF I just ordered, I specified white and did not order the LEDs. It is longer geared (106 mph in 3rd) so there is more time spent in each gear. The dealer said that the cars are ordered mostly in either yellow or white tachs.

FWIW I drove one with a black tach and in bright light found that the mostly red needle on the black background made it nearly invisible too. It could be my eyes but...

Where I come out is that if you have the LEDs, you are free to choose a tach color based on your sense of style for the car. But if you don't have the LEDs, you should pay attention to readability.

Never. My 430 had a red rev counter. The black one in my 458 is very sharp and very, very easy to read. Downside is it is a little boring from an aesthetic point.

IMHO only one car in the world I am aware of has a yellow rev counter background offered from the factory. Lots of cars have white and when I see it I think of all those Nissans.............. My other choice would be black- straight up business. Don't care for red.

I think I like white Dial best, I have seen it as a option in F12, 599GTO, and a few 458's.

As it is a cost option I am not sure how much it adds to the bill.

I would like a Green one Go Green | Flickr - Photo Sharing! but maybe that would not be a great idea.

How come no one likes red? I think red is the best. And yellow 2nd.

the tach red seems dark and dull...not rosso corsa or rosso scuderia.

I wanted red to go with red stitching and rosso corsa exterior until I saw it in person. the seems elegant rather than sporty. the yellow just pops and is sporty. goes with the horse on the steering wheel and the shields.

A red tach would not have been a deal killer when I was looking but I like the yellow better.

Black is businesslike...gives the car a more bare bones racing look. had black on F355 and 360. bought a yellow tach piece from Ricambi for the 360 and loved it. have black on the subaru turbos. been there, done that.

White is what is on the Boxster S...comes with the S. black comes with the base boxster. when I replace the Boxster am considering yellow instruments or maybe red if it is bright red.

I have red but it looks dark during the day and appears black at night. Has anyone successfully changed the tach dial to another color? It seems like a complicated process...

You do get what you pay for. $908 to be able to read your tach in a $300K car. :)

The curious thing is why white is the only extra cost option? It must be the least popular choice, low volume = $?
