I know it's a rather controversial title, but after having specced my 458 Speciale yesterday, I truly believe that if I would have started with a 458 Italia instead and added the options that I want (some of which the Speciale has as standard), I'd probably have ended up with almost the same price. Which means you'd get the power increase, weight reduction, fancy aerodynamics, more noise and all for 'free'.

The Speciale has standard: lighter alloys, LED (CF) steering wheel, CF racing seats, CF door panels, partial CF and alcantara interior, Scuderia shields and logos on the headrests. I don't know the exact value of these options, but I think that would come very close to the 33k USD price difference between the 2 cars' base price that we have here, being 260k USD (Italia) and 293k USD (Speciale).

Sure, it might not be a 'limited' run as its predecessors, but if the car is better value-for-money to begin with, I don't really care. And finally, the looks are growing on me too...

According to the Pilota driver that I spoke with at a Ferrari event last Friday, the performance difference between the Italia and Speciale is even larger than the gap between the 430 and the Scuderia. He might be saying that because Ferrari is paying his salary, but if it's true, it will be absolutely amazing!

How much is it? It's a bit difficult to tell without the price if it's worth it or not.

It seems impossible to me that it will be less than the 458 spider, which is 30 grand more than the standard coupe.

If does it have the CF in the engine compartment and the door panels? If it does, then it is a bargain. If not, then it's just OK at 33 grand over a standard coupe.

Does it have plex for the rear window instead of glass?

Racing package for the coupe which includes the dash, the seats, the gauges, the paddles, and the steering wheel is about 14 grand. Lower zone CF is 9.5 grand (which I think included the door panels). Rear bumper in CF is $4 grand. Adding them all together is about 28 grand.

The 458 Speciale might not be as promising as it is in stock. But if you add all the lightweight options (not compromising comfort) and hop in for a stage 1 Heffner Twin Turbo system you will have at your disposal a truly sexy machine.

My bad, just added the prices in my comment above too. Italia is 260k USD here, Speciale 293k.

CF in engine compartment is not standard (about 8k USD), CF door panels are.
Rear screen is Lexan, about 30% lighter than glass.

Can you guess what's the light saving just from the windows?? Does it add up to few kilos? Thank you

Theoretically I could, but it would be very wrong for sure, so I don't. Windscreen and side windows are made of thinner glass, hence lighter too.

The gap is wider this time. The 430-scud difference was just 20 hp if I am not mistaken. This time it is about 30 hp. Also the weight savings are probably greater.

And yes, with those standard options I feel the speciale can be had for the price of a well optioned coupe, at least in Dubai.

I don't think you could feel an extra 30 hp. You can feel the lightness though.

The combination of both can really change the car's attitude as all you well know..
Just looking at numbers, the 458 standard could get the same weight/power ratio of the Speciale adding around 76 hp to the standard 570.. Can you imagine how this could change the 458 Italia?

Mine configured as described costs exactly 209.000 euro (without tax) :
    black color
    black mat wheels
    yellow calipers
adjustable seatings * (I suppose 3 or 4 kg more)
four point harnesses (2 kg more?)
    telemetry (1,5 kg?)
    Scuderia shields *
carbon fiber in the engine compartment (-1,2 kg)
    yellow RPM indicator
    gray stiching
    logos on the headrests
    audio-navi (2,5 kg?)
    estinguisher (1,5 kg?)

    * free of charge
final weight considering that the carbon on engine compartment was of course included in their calculation, should be 1290 kg plus about 11.5 kg (25,3 lbs) plus about 100 kg for fluids and so on , so 1.401,5 kg. The weight of a GT3 previous series.
Btw I have professional scales and I will test mine when will arrive next spring.

They told me the first orders for Dubai would translate into January 2014 production.

I could easily finalize my order now (pending for answers on some options questions), but since the prices for options and the allocations numbers for Dubai aren't disclosed yet, I have to wait a bit.

Official launch of the car here in Dubai will be Thursday 31 October, prior to the Abu Dhabi F1.

My rule of thumb is 15 percent. It probably happens at the top of the rpm range.

I agree that the increase in the base price of the speciale is darn close to a similar optioned italia. It will be more with a few creature comforts, but as long as you don't go crazy, it won't be much more. My rep said he suspects the base price to be BELOW the base on the scud, but who knows. He indicated ferrari wants them to encourage more options to keep their profit margin intact. I hope he's right on the base price.

Ah, ok. I was thinking of something like Porsche's Web site where you can "spec and build" a car and get the price.

Ferrari's configurator can be found on the dealer's site, but not all the options are on it, no prices are listed and it isn't (yet) available for the Speciale.
