This is exactly why Ring times are irrelevant as long as they are fast by whichever standard they are being compared against.

They go and make a fast lap. Then Porsche laps faster. 3 weeks later, Mclaren comes back and probably do it even faster. What if Porsche goes back? etc? Do you keep sending your car to your dealer for updates every 3 weeks?

    When does it stop?

Has McLaren made a press release yet in regards to their actual Ring time?

The 7:04 is all just internet rumor without any sort of confirmation?

I hope no one gets seriously injured; or worse; in this race for the best time....

The track was clear for two days, but rained later in the afternoon....no time yet?

Wait for it, Chris Goodwin is an excellent driver, if weather permits.

Isn't it a bit late in the year for optimal Ring times? Too cold? Will be interesting to see what news emerges... I am sure McLaren will declare a time eventually- there is too much rumour and noise out there to ignore. We might just have to wait till next year if the weather doesn't play nice.

Thanks. I do have my biases, but I am not afraid to admit them. I think people will accept your bias, as long as you don't try to hide it.

Interesting. Why would anybody want to sponsor a car without putting his name on it.

He could be just a racing enthusiast, but... giving for money for nothing to one of the biggest F1 teams?

I know . . . it is interesting, isn't it? If someone else on here knows about this, I will be happy to confirm it, but I don't want to be the one to spill the beans on this sponsor.

Suffice it to say this . . . the amount of money was "chump change" to the investor. The investor is a true car enthusiast. In addition to his "orange smudge" he was able to have several personal visits in his home from everyone at McL. He spent a lot of time with Mansur Ojjeh on Ojjeh's yacht. And he (and his family) have lifetime VIP passes at anything to do with McLaren.

Absolutely not . The weak link in the Mclarens arsenal is in fact Goodwin .
Id hire Alzen or a similar Big Ring gun . Phil Bennet would do a better job for free !( someone at mac wants an intro ill pass on Phils number for free , lol ).

I wonder why they're not announcing that they've beaten 918's time as some here have said they have.

Weather's awful at the Ring. It would be very impressive if they set that time in the rain.

    ;)

For what it's worth all of McLaren's U.S. allocations for the P1 have been filled. They are also very excited about the potential for their cars in China.

Probably because they wait for a dry weather track Jim to blow away the 918 time. Simples. What do you think?

Because they want to annihilate the 918. They have a target and they know that it's achievable. ;)

I'm sure they would like to.

I'm also sure they'd like to beat Red Bull.

Highly doubt it. If a bone stock SL65 can eat a Yamaha R1.. I would think the bike against these cars would be nothing but a distant memory, the bike would just plain ol run out of steam.

Bridge to Gantry reports an R1 at 7:10 without the straight, so not so distant memories. I guess a 7:20 is highly possible which is remarkable.

Enjoy: Fastest motorcycle lap of the Nürburgring. 7m10s BTG Yamaha YZF R1. - YouTube

Says in the comments a relative complete lap would have taken 7:23

On a better bike and in perfect conditions that could come down further
