What process did you use to polish the cam and belt covers? How long did it take?

Maybe you should get the paint work done while the engine is out ... so it does not get covered in paint dust.

    Just a thought

    Hi mark,

Ive got my gt4 partially stripped back this winter to clean engine/ belts and service and get the engine bay looking a bit brighter than it did in this photo last year.

I really need to get some time to get it back together, just in case the UK weather ever decides it is spring !

Im in daventry if you are in east mids. And i also did the donington historic and parade lap last year - good fun !

How come your 1979 car is wearing an L plate? Personal plate?

Thanks for the note, what is with the weather at the min? We had snow again in the last 2 days..... Donington is turing out to be a great event, fingers crossed all is sorted for then. Are heading down this year? Yes personal plate from the last owner.

Right, engine done full major completed, new clutch and many seals, engine also sealed so no more ( well a few less ) drips. Next stop XK Engineering for the body work,

    - To remove the front screen, remove paint from aperture and repair any rust/corrosion
    areas
    - To Paint and polish the front screen aperture
    - Remove the paint from both front wing lower sections metalwork repair, prepare,
paint and polish both front wings
    - Metalwork repair the N/S lower door section and repaint the complete door (large
touch in higher upper) and machine polish
    - Plus a full front end strip, prepare, paint(to remove stonechips),full machine polish and
    rebuild.

    ;-)

Boy do I miss hearing that V8 sing!

If it was my engine I would trim the excess of those gaskets with a knife ... the bit that is sticking out is doing nothing.

    Best

Hello, just thought I would post a quick update, mechanicals all sorted and she was shipped off to XK engineering for the body work this week. Donington Historic is not going to happen but I would rather she is right, then rush the job.

New stable mate arrived on the weekend, 1995 Sport ( for anyone interested basically a CS with elec windows and aircon, only sold in the UK) 1 owner from new, 48k on the clock with a full OPC history. Another greatly underrated car in my humble opinion.

Just missed seeing it, Mark. I'm going to Shiltech this week for the MoT. Just caught up with this thread - great work. Let me know when you're ready to head for the hills. I've not had a chance this year (or last) to hook up with the EM FOC; do you go along to their get-togethers?

    Hi,
Hope the Mot goes to plan. Indeed would be great to meet up for a drive, Ive not seen her in the garage for over 6 months so cant wait! Was at Donington last year with the EM FOC really friendly and had a nice spin around the circuit, also manage to travel to the Morgan factory as well. Nice people, Brit is very helpful. Work and family tend to come first so have not managed one of the monthly meets. Saying that, let me know if your heading over and Ill join you, bring a little 308 magic to the evening?

Let me know how the Mot goes, finally feels like spring is here. ;-)

Been a while so thought better get some more shots up. Shiltech have been great and the engine is back in and the final bay details are coming together nicely. On closer inspection Kyle was not that happy with the paint on the passenger door after the repair. Borrowed a torch and you could see that its too orange...... I think its going back to get the whole side sprayed to get a good match.

Shiltech are really working on some nice stuff at the min ( slightly different league ) 275 gtb4 and a lovely 330 all in for full resto and Classiche, lovely.

Looking a real treat, Mark. Your boots look decidedly modern - did you go for roadholding vs originality there?

Ok, been a long time coming 20 months actually, but after 2 attempts at getting the paint right, then messing up my interior.... see pics, we have finally got to the right end.

The guys doing the paint were terrible, they can paint 330's, 275s without issues but a humble 308gt4, no its too much trouble for them. You can see the disaster that was the second attempt.

After the third paint job, we got to an agreed point but that was still far from where it should have been for the price we paid. It has to be said that if it were not for our detailer D2Detail keeping an eye on what was going on there is no way we would have her back now.

What follows is the ugly and then then were we finished. Picked her up on Saturday, let her warm up properly and then drove her like she was intend ;-))

Wow! Sorry for your troubles. I hate seeing bad paint jobs or body work.

Cheers! Was a long time in the making, taking a really good car and making it better. Best tip, it will take twice as long as you think and cost 50% more.

    Worth it? Absolutely ;-)
