Hi, my '80 GTSi has Aspara compressor.
And AC compressor assy has removed, because it had heavy leakage at the shaft seal.
Replacement shaft seal had obtained from Superformance.
Therefore I need to remove pully clutch unit from the compressor.
I have succeeded to remove the center M8 bolt usuing impact wrench.
The next step is removeing pully clutch unit from the shaft.
It seems to bolt M16 P2.5 bolt inside the hole appered by removing M8 bolt.
However I cannot get such bolt round my place.
Is there any trick to remove the unit?

I guess I don't quite understand your problem. I had removed the center bolt and then the 4 small bolts and the clutch assembly just pulled off. I did not have to seperate the clutch assembly. Installation was just the reverse of removal.

Compressor shaft taper seems to bite a lot.
I guess M16-P2.5? bolt needed to separate the taper bite...

    it's a 5/8-11 thread.

There a few places on these cars that have english instead of metric threads.

    cheers

It looks like the pulley is on there with a slot cut for a woodruff key. If so, use a puller and pull the pulley straight out.

I wouldn't ... the right bolt makes easy work. Use an impact gun so you're not having to hold the pulley while you tighten the bolt to pop it off. The bore is tapered .. the shaft on the compressor is tapered. I just popped one off yesterday during an AC rehad.

    cheers

You'll also notice that the pulley is a seperate piece from the center held on by small flat metal plates ... you risk bending and distorting them if you use a puller.

    Thank you for all.
That's 5/8-11! Because I think Aspara is Italy company, I thought it is metric.
Therefore I had got M16 p2.0 bolt, but it was not fit.
I am not sure how pully is attached to the shaft now but will find soon.

The bearing holds the two pieces together. There's a snap ring in there too.

Gotta be careful pressing the pieces apart IIRC 'cause it's easy to distort the flat metal pieces that connect the outer ring of the pulley to the center piece which is capturing the bearing. Makes more sense with pics.

Yep ... I luv the connections that are a metric hex with a standard thread ... or vice versa. :)

I thought Ford had pioneered this madness in the 80's, but realized there are many euro cars from the 70's era that utilized American "systems" ... air conditioning, automatic transmissions, smog equipment, etc.

    cheers

    Hi all,
Finally succeeded to exchnge shaft seal.
However mine seems to be different bearing holding.
    See attached pic.
Luckly my bearing seems OK, so I have not removed this.
