Inflation adjusted and using Gold as a benchmark, lets run those numbers again; 1992 Gold = $350/oz, 1142 oz's for $400k Today Gold = $1770/Oz and 1142 oz's = $2,020,000 IMO, a car with 162 miles is just as amusing as a pile of metal.
Oh about that time I went to the factory to collect a car, and we were walked through a large room with F430's being taken apart (new cars off the production line) and in the room was a F40 in a state of half built/stripped. We asked what the area was, told it was where they make the manuals for dealers and test reoccurring issues with cars delivered, and the F40 was being finished, built for the young Ferrari boy. Were told it was all new, the last F40, 20years after they stopped making them, I'm paraphrasing, but that's pretty much what she said. Don't know if it was a new chassis number, or reused, but it all looked brand new!
took mine out this weekend and clicked over to 21k km. and glad to do it. 162 miles yuck, what a waste of time.
This may be a total rebuild of an existing car, rather than a completely new F40 being manufactured in 2006/7. I suspect the former is the case.
Not all cars have average mileage. Some have very low mileage such as this car, some have over 100,000 miles, and some are in-between. Whether we approve or not doesn't change anything. There are a multitude of reasons why a car is not driven, but, who really cares why. All that matters is that a person on this board (who already owns another F40 with significant mileage, by the way) has been blessed with the chance at a 'new' F40. If we really think about it, I think most people would be delighted to have the same opportunity and become the first registered owner. All is good.
91407 has resurfaced, now at Ferrari of Austin.... anyone know if it still has the same owner? This Is What An F40 Would Look Like If You'd Bought One New

buy one.... use it. want to get show piece ....buy one from kyosho or burago! put in yr sad office shelf or up where the sun no shine BM
you discovered that car? like Columbus discovered the new world or like Fleming discovered penicillin?
In this instance discover is being used loosely as in "I discovered where I left my owner's manual 6 months ago" !! It was stashed away away from prying eyes, but not entirely out of sight, which is how I came to find out about it! Now it appears to have resurfaced. Like a submarine?
So this one is his garage queen,i.e. piece of art. The other one is his daily/weekly driver. That makes plenty of sense.
What do you think the difference in value is of an example with 167 miles versus 16,700 (properly serviced)? My guess is "probably not that much."
I would agree with you but in reality a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I think the price is very good for such a pristine example but I would also pay that for one with 16,700 miles.
i wld disagree. the 16k mile is prob a 700K car and the 200 mile one is prob a 1.5 to 2M car big difference.
Funny! The 162 mile F40 that is the subject of this thread is priced at $431K and every other opinion of what it is worth is what I mentioned previously, "a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it". It is a STEAL at that price.
