Hello, would anyone know where to buy this type of headlight lens with the chrome bezel? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would also be interested in that type of headlight surround. I have covers on mine but this one looks much better
I don´t think that You can buy them. All Dinos are a bit different and so the surrounds need individual fitment. I´m just in the process making some surrounds (not for a Dino) and found it rather easy. Made some templates, first put tape on the car, scribed lines as I wanted the surrounds, removed the tape in segments and put it on a cardboard. After cutting out the cardboard i checked the fitting of the segments. Than thansferred to a sheet of metal and cutted, bended, welded and grinded as long, as i needed to be happy. Finish and chroming will be done by the plating shop. Here are some pics. Thanks for sharing. here's a better close up photo. There are no tabs on these. Image Unavailable, Please Login
the trim looks too heavy for the dino. i would opt for thinner trim, similar to the window surround. make it look delicate. maybe even an edging on the lens itself and then attach it the same way the all plastic ones are attached.
I absolutely agree. I will be using plastic chrome strips with 3m backing in different sizes as a template and once I find the perfect size, I'll have a metal shop fabricate it. It will be flat and U shape so that it hugs the edges of the lens. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It really gives a beautiful classy and finished look to the car. It's may be more pronounced on a darker color but wow.....it looks great!
The example on the black Dino gives a beautiful finished look. The amount of crown on the lens and, as was mentioned, the chrome thickness is a delicate balance. Really like the idea though. Compares nicely to the 275GTB! Freeman
thank you, It is obvious that the lights were designed to have the lenses but for some odd reason, the factory opted not to install them. Regardless, I will be using these as they complete the flow of the curvature of the fender and since my car is black, the chrome gives it a nice contrast.
I purchased the light covers from Superformance(can't say enough great stuff about those guys) and was told that they were the ones that Maranello concessions sold. These were the ones used on the cars when requested by customers. I have noticed that they seem sharper angled than others that I have seen. Fred you have covers on your car that are more flowing and less severe. I plan to put the covers on my car and have never quite gotten the answer where the less sharp ones come from? Are they all custom made? It may be in fact that the chrome surrounds really show off darker cars? My car will be an anthracite/silver exactly as Tom Kearns car (stunning IMO) and I wonder what the more flowing covers with the chrome surrounds would look like. They just finish the car perfectly....thanks
Try the chrome strips with the 3m backing just to see how it looks against your anthracite/silver. I think it will look great. post a pic please.
Mel Are you planning on having the covers custom made of glass after you have decided on the surround. Also how are you going to vent the covers? I would be interested in a set of the chrome surrounds if you have them fabricated.
The covers will remain as is (plexiglass). Not sure if they need to be vented unless you plan on having the headlights on at all times. Every cover needs to be custom fit to the car as these cars are all different than each other. You may have to custom fit yours. I'll let you know once I get mine done and you can follow the same process. All the best
Champ, I got mine from Egidio Brandoli, near Maranello, in 1999. They were carefully trimmed by Bob Zambelli, who is an F-Chat consultant. He was scrupulous in his determination to maintain the correct curvature. However, as with all of these covers, there are unavoidable small gaps that let dirt and debris in. I take the covers off two or three times a season, and clean out the coves. I really like what they do for the front end of a Dino. Fred
