I think Paul di Resta is overrated.

I have a lot of respect for Vettel & what he's achieved, but lets be clear, what he's achieved has much more to do with what he hasn't done than what he's contributed. What he hasn't done is crash the car or break it very often.

His contribution has been to keep the car on the black stuff & keep it in one piece.

The credit for most of what he has achieved belongs to Adrian Newey. Just as it did for Piquet, Mansell, Prost, Villeneuve, Hill and (to a large extent) Hakkinen before him.

I also don't know of anybody who doesn't think Alonso would have 6 titles by now of he'd been offered & signed the right contract. (i.e. a Red Bull contract)

Many forget that JV dragged that POS BAR into the points on several occasions
when it clearly belonged farther down the grid. Only after Richards arrived on the
scene did he seem to lose the fire, similiar to Jacky Ickx (sp?) in the mid-seventies.

post of the day. agreed. Had Alonso signed for Red Bull, we would all be saying, "Sebastian who"?

Schumacher would've had 20 titles if he'd always signed with the right team.

It doesn't work that way chaps.

I may get flamed for this but here goes, Keke Rosberg. Won in 82 when F1 lost a couple of top drivers to crashes, (Villenuve, Pironi). Very consistant in a year that was tumultous. Never repeated the results again. (Granted Williams fell off in form). Also, I do feel Vettel is overrated. He wins cause of the car he's driving. He's obviously brilliant and will likely break all sorts of records but he's also a very lucky duck to be in that car right now.

"It’s a widely-held belief that Adrian does his best work whenever F1 undergoes one of its periodic regulatory upheavals, moving development away from number crunching and briefly allowing creativity and intuition to come back to the fore. 2009 demonstrated that in ample measure: Red Bull Racing’s breakthrough season had Adrian’s RB5 taking five pole positions and score six victories."

He hasn't looked back since. Having a driver like Vettel has simply made RBR untouchable.

Of the current crop the most overrated is definitely Hamilton IMO. He has the speed but lacks everything else.

What about Montoya? Everyone said he would a world champion or maybe even double world champion. The other one is Nick Heidfeld.

He is a great passer. When the cars are equal in speed, no one, including Vettel, has anything for him in qualifying. With Rosberg, he has proved that he can handle it when someone is faster than him sometimes and he isn't scared of anyone.

Ironically, I think the ultimate team would be Alonso and Hamilton.

I don't think LH is overrated at all.

He never had the equipment for that. The Williams was pretty good back then but never better or on par with the Ferrari. He didn't seem to like it at McLaren even though he had some success. Again, the Ferrari and Renault was better.

The Ferrari was not better than the McLaren in 2005. I think Montoya was/is overrated. Everyone thought he was sooo good because he managed to go wheel to wheel with MS a couple times, nevermind the fact that he couldn't even catch a whiff of MS's exhaust in the actual points standings.

Then he gets sacked by McLaren for sucking and goes to Nascar and sucks even worse.

+1 and they fired Aldo Costa (who is at Benz now)

Red Bull has also been throwing more capital at F1 then anyone pretty much ever. They have something like a staff of 600 or so which is about 50-100 more than anyone else.

They were pretty much equal but by then the Renault was better. Winning three races isn't exactly sucking. BTW, JPM left the team, not the other way around. Pissed off ol Ron so bad he let him go early.

I think the most overrated driver in F1 is Bernd Mailander. He always seems to lead for a few laps then disappear completely.

At no point in the 2005 season was the Ferrari as good as the McLaren or Renault. The McLaren was the fastest car but also very unreliiable. The Renault was fast and reliable. The Ferrari was reliable but slow due to the tires.

Montoya wasn't that bad in 2005, but he got exposed when Kimi smoked him that year. He really sucked in 2006 before old Ron showed him the door.

I doubt he lost any driving abilty in a year. He seemed to lose his motivation once it came out that they had signed Alonso. The fact remains he never had a car that could win the title so it's tough to say that he was overrated.
