Hakkinen and Kubica. Never saw F1 prior to 1998, so I can't comment on Alesi. But Hakkinen could of win more championships if he did not retire early. I personally think Hakkinen was one of the greatest drivers.

I was a big fan of MH he came over as a really nice guy, maybe his downfall, maybe he was not ruthless enough.

Mika was very, very good, the most amazing driver in f.3 ever since Ayrton....he took his time in f.1..but after his almost fatal accident in adelaide he was a new man...previously he and D.C seemed to be on the same level..next year Mika was on another planet!!! I think there was litle to choose between him, Alesi and Shumi, to bad jean never had the same chance as the other two...i must say however, Michael was mentaly the strongest of them all, and the one who worked harder, MIka was perhaps the fastest of them all, while i believe Alesi was the one with more natural talent.....another driver who could have been great was herbert..he was amazing in his debut (but neede help to get in and out of the car...gachot destroyed his carrer with a stupid f.300 accident, without that he could have been world champion..than he always had poor luck...he could have gone to mac and williams but lotus stoped him (they let go of Mika but not herbert)...when he finaly got a decent car he was sabotaged by Briatore...a very sordid afair...

Although I don't like him, Kid Index is a great driver.

Hakkinen is not great. He is spectacular. Blindingly quick; knew how to nurse the car and tires. Amazing instincts when on unfamiliar ground.

Don't forget, he almmost died in a wreck. He spent months in the hospital. And to come back and drive on the knife-edge after an experience like that is a sign of greatness. But for one tire nut, or one blown engine, or team orders by Ferrari, he would have been 3 times champ (maybe 4).

And he did it in a car that had equals and rivals on track. While I respect Red Bull, they clearly have superior equipment.
