Gang, My DD was broken into last night on the street. Thieves stole my laptop and briefcase which contained my one and only 355 key and alarm fob. Please send me info on who to contact to get a new key and replacement alarm fob. I dread calling the dealer and even imagining what they'd charge, so if there are other options to get this started, would very much appreciate. Thanks all. ketel
The key is fairly easy eg http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q/412414-f355-lost-key-no-spare-dealer-locksmith.html or some locksmiths can reverse cut The fob may not be so simple - do yo have the PIN to at least (once you have a key) try to start the car ?
Local dealer in Hong Kong quoted me around 1000USD installation and parts inclusive to replace the alarm ecu along with new pin code, one red fob and two black fobs I have no idea if that is a comparable price in the US or elsewhere
Ouch, really, really sorry man! These SF meth heads are relentless! I'm not much help on the fob/key question, just don't let this sour your 355 experience too much more...
Ketel, do you have your PIN number? If so, 3 FOB's will cost around $650 IIRC (I just bought them recently) one single key will cost $325 (you don't need PIN for this, only FOB's) You can get the PIN for around $350. But, this all takes time. Send me a PM if you like and I'll connect you will a dealer that can help.
I have fobs and alarm systems... I might have cylinders and keys...you will have to remove ignition switch from steering housing
Try gobble here of F-Chat. He programs a lot of fobs and just did one for me. He usually needs an original to clone another one but I don't really know what he is able to put together.
If I understand correctly, you have only 1 fob and 1 key with no PIN. At this point, your best bet is BCWAWright for the whole system: Alarm ECU, set of matched fobs to the ECU, and the set of keys and lock cylinders for the doors and ignitions. Your other bet is to tow the car to the dealer in Marin and they will rescue you, at a pretty steep price. Likely $2000 for the alarm and set of 3 fobs. Although, you may be able to order the key cut to your VIN from the dealer at $3xx each, as well as getting the PIN from them for another x number of dollars. Sorry to hear this JT.
His car is locked and he can't get in. I don't think the key has anything to do with the immobilizer/alarm so it would be best to get a key cut, as I stated, I did recently for $325. You need to provide a title copy and license and the info must match. Problem is it takes months. I've connected John with the dealer who has been very helpful to me.
I understand that he has only 1 key, and 1 fob, and they are both stolen at this point. So, no, he cannot get in, or turn the alarm off, or start the car. He is really $crewed. He lives only miles from SF dealer in Marin County. So, maybe that is a solution.
+1 ..... Being as how there is a thief out there with both your key AND fob, it may be best to get a new fob set and have the tumblers re-keyed to a new profile. Should your key and fob find their way back to your 355, having both changed would be optimal. Maybe someone else can chime in, if redoing only one of the two, would be sufficient to provide a reasonable deterrent.
A locksmith can easily, for $100 or so, create an new key. Isn't there a way to bypass/disable/kill the freakin' useless alarm? Why would anybody want that thing to work? As if somebody's gonna steal one of the world's most recognizable cars? They steal Hondas fer chrissake, not Ferraris! Is the disabler anything more than a starter interlock? Pardon me if I haven't done my research.
Bruce, the alarm is a two part system. Alarm and immobilizer. I for one, like having both. The world is full of jackasses so it's a nice feature. I'm more concerned with someone breaking in than stealing the car. I live in an area with very limited exotics and I have an F1. I could toss my keys to a stranger and they would never know how to start the car, that one benefit alone. Hopefully the local dealer or Algar who I put John in touch with can expedite something for him. And having the PIN is best anyway so I hope he can get thru this quickly.
good point ...... however there may be some people out there, who wouldn't mind driving an f'car ..... 'like they stole it' ......
Quick update: After discussing with a few folks, there are a number of options here. None are that attractive, but some are definitely more appealing than others. That said, there are some questions I'd need answered so I know which direction to go. Option 1 is go to the dealer and grab my ankles. They'd order a new key (assuming they like my paperwork) which comes from Ferrari NA in New Jersey. That's $325. Then I'd need to order a new alarm ECU/immobilizer kit. That runs approx. 1500 clams. That would need to come programmed from Italy, so assume a few weeks for that to arrive. Once here, the dealer will want another $1000 or so to install and so forth. So the dealer option is going to run about $3,000. Option 2 involves using the dealer for a new key -- no other way as I see it -- but sourcing an alarm ECU/immobilizer another way. Question 1: Once I can get in the vehicle with a new key, can I disable/turn off the alarm by getting into the boot and turning the battery killswitch key? Or, will the alarm keep blaring away regardless of the killswitch key? Would I need to remove the actual terminals from the battery to stop the alarm from blaring? Question 2: Once I get in the vehicle, how complex is it to swap out the alarm ECU/immobilizer boxes behind the drivers seat? Is it a straight swap or is this a complicated procedure? I sourced another alarm ECU/immobilizer kit for a lot less $$ than the dealer will want (and avoid the time lag from Italy) but I don't want to do it if it's a really nasty complex job to install it. I'd appreciate any guidance here? ketel
If it were me.. and the 360 and 355 have a similar alarm system as you get into the 97+ cars as I understand... 1) I'd use a long wire and go in through the edge of the window and jimmy the door lock up and then open things. 2) Once inside, I would either remove the door cylinders or the glovebox as stated prior. I'd take this to a locksmith that can rekey it to your car. Or, if cheap enough just get a matcing set from a used car. 3) I'm not sure if the Alarm ECU and Immobilizer are mated to the Engine ECU like the 360. If they are, then you might HAVE to go the dealership route to pair it. If not, then I'd get a matching immobilizer and alarm/lock ECU. 4) Get an extra key made once you have a working set. 5) If this ever happens to me I'm totally getting rid of the immobilizer in mine with a bypass.
Spending $325 is much easier IMO than replacing all the cylinders. The glove box is also a different key than the doors.. The time to remove the cylinders including the ignition is far more costly that $325.00....
Call and say: If I buy a new ecu, does it come with the PIN code? If not, then you know it's not in the ECU. If it's not in the ECU, then you're home free. Call a locksmith out to make a new key. Find the immobiliser and bypass it. But then, I'm a cheap SOB.
