Boxer Pricing on the rise?

Not sure if anyone saw this recent listing on hemmings. I can't believe the price for that car!

I agree completely with your description of why we love the Boxer. I owned an 84bbi and sold it because the price went insane in 89. I loved the car and did not buy it as an investment, but could not resist an offer for over $250k. Prices like that destroy the market for people who just love the cars.

I agree they are vastly different. But all 3 are pure shapes uncompromised by legislation. All 3 are stunning viceral machines to drive. All 3 are an event iin and of themselvs.
The Boxer is acar that has elements of the past, one bei g that in those days Ferraris really were very different to other machines. So yes a boxer is newer more modern but it is a lineal decendant of the other cars, the modern are sopmethig different, cooked in a differetn kitchen.

I am not saying boxer is the same as a swb, but its from the same vive and is similarily appealing to hop in and drive. To me that means that in time boxer prices will be linked to the older more expensive cars, as opposed to the moderns which are more of a mass disposable item.

 

I agree, not easy to drive, but hen it communicates and rewards in a way few other do, you just have to know how to speak boxer. Maybe that limits it, but I think most collectable cars are puttering around anyway.

Interesting lets see what happens when they get to 35.

 

I don't mean to derail this thread but I want to set the record straight. The Dino is not a Fioravanti design, though he had oversight on the project. The design should be credited to Aldo Brovarone. The Fioravanti Ferrari cars are the 365 GTB (Daytona), 365 GT4 BB, 308, GTO, F40.

As far as Boxer pricing? It does seem kind of stuck in a range and not rising like the classics and super models.

I didn't mean to insult anyone. It is just very expensive for customized and not original boxer. I am very happy if it sells, as I believe it makes mine worth more.

 

Interesting that for all the work that went into it, there is still the orig AC compressor there. Always hard to sell one persons customization vision.

 

I have quite a few listing of US Boxers for sale from the late 70s and 80s with serial #.
The mileage of most of these cars may surprise a lot of people. Some early 80s example with 25,000 miles some with considerable less

Low mileage by disconnecting the speedometer was quite common.

 

I've seen a few boxers lately and they show low miles, but look like they are shot in the interior.

Same with the 308s. It's amazing how many have less than 40K miles on them and always look shot or have repaints and new interiors. What kind of abuse does it take to crap out a 308 at 40K miles.

 

Ferrari interiors age with time, a do bushings hoses etc. Also if the car has low mileage, but its frequent trips lots of getting in and out.

Paint from 80's should last.

 

I agree completely. My interior still looks nice and my paint looks great both original and 70K miles on an 83 308 QV.

 

Not sure when ferrari went away from Lacquer paint but by 83 it may be enamel. Tough to find a 70's ferrari with original paint that doesn't need a paint job even if it was kept in a bubble.

 

Yep the lacquer paint just won't hold up after 20+ years. Someone brings a original 275GTB to a show every year and the verde finish is completely spiderwebbed.

 

Can someone confirm when lacquer paint paint went away at Ferrari or what paint is demonstrated by Boxers??

I remember seeing bb boxers in the 90s with 30,000kms...funny how 20yrs later the ODO has gone down.

 

Odometer reading doesn't matter anymore on boxers everybody just wants one! How many people ask about the odometer on a dino or a lusso? Who cares just give me the car!!!

 

Could be when ferrari switched to glasurit from Glidden Salchi. Yellow paint decal vs silver and blue foil. My 79 is lacquer my ex 82 I believe is enamel which jives with the paint labels.

 

Don't trust odometer readings - lots of Ferraris have had the clocks disconnected or even had them turned back.

about 3 years ago I had to change some bulbs at the rpm meter at my BB. when I put it all together the speedometer was not working anymore. so I took it out and sent it to a specialist. 2 days later I got a call that the speedometer is working fine. so I also removed the sender unit and sent it. lt also was working fine there. so I got it all back, put it in, and had the same problem . no speed showing.
so I checked the electric wires and found a little switch left under the dashboard. this switch interrupted the sending unit and the speedometer. when taking out the rpm meter I must affect this switch.

so never trust the mileage on the gauge

 

That's not the point I was trying to make, but I agree the mileage is not the first question asked on the specialty cars.

 

Funny, last year before I took mine in for a major and some sorting , when I would turn the key in the ignition, it would actually advance the odometer slightly, every time. I wasn't sure how long this was happening before it was fixed.

 

Interesting, never heard of that before.
