does anyone have thoughts or insight on owning a 1963 Lancia Flaminia 2.5, single carb 2+2 bodied by Pininfarina. I know a 2.8, 3 carb bodied by Carrozzeria is a bit more desirable but Im looking for a drivable, dependable italian touring car. These 2.5, 1C's(triple barrel carb) look fantastic, seem like plenty of room for adults in the back seat, and aren't tons of dollars yet?
Im looking for tips like whether they run hot, burn oil, have known gremlins, etc in cars that are well-maintained and cared for?

This car is an terrific GT built to drive everywhere, it isn't a sport car. The PF Flaminia needs just the service, as prescribed on the manual, and no more. I suggest you to find a proper Lancia garage in your area before to buy one because many mechanics say "no problem sir" , but they don't know anything about a Lancia and they don't have even the proper tools.

Many many parts are unobtanium, but I've heard people have been manufacturing some of them. Beautiful cars.

Found a similar thread to the one i posted in this subsection dating back to august 2013, on the flaminia. Scares the hell out of me to make the purchase until someone within 40 miles confirms that they have tools, knowledge, and experience in servicing the lancia. Thanks for the comments to mine. They are exactly what was posted earlier.

I must say, in addition to a PPI, due diligence buying a classic must include asking questions to friends on ferrarichat.

I owned a Flaminia for a number of years. This isn't true of only Lancias, but probably the worst thing you can do to one of them is to leave it sitting unused in a humid garage. One that is regularly started and driven will probably give you far less trouble.

The engine shouldn't run hot at all, the car is equipped with a fairly large oil cooler as standard, and the engine isn't highly stressed.

Don't forget that the 400mm tires and tubes used on the Flaminia are only available from specialist suppliers.

Most Flaminias will be equipped with only ancient/basic seat belts, if any at all.

It's nice to see that rubber weatherstripping and mats are listed on ebay, as sell as newly made bumpers.

There is a worldwide shortage of distributor caps, probably easier to find a replacement distributor with more readily available parts and machine it to fit the space.

    It's certainly a beautiful car.

Zagatos and Tourings have the same mechanical equipment, so the story is the same: don't buy them if you haven't a proper workshop nearby.
I know some SZs have the engine and or the front modified to seem race cars (so keep the eyes opened), but not the SSZ fortunately.

Going back to Miltonian's Post #5, thanks. Great read! I love your comment on the 400mm tires. I recently drove test drove the '64 Flaminia and it had what is believed to be the original Michelin tires still on it. The car was in great shape, owned by a great custodian, who knows his stuff! I havent pulled the trigger yet cause Im scared about service and parts. I might as well fly a UFO around here, as own a Lancia. No One has ever seen one in the parts....

The cases in point are two: it's a fake or a legend.
Vignale never built a Flaminia in the '60s, just a Flaminia Sport convertible 2500 in 1959 and this car has been demolished.

i discussed a Flaminia 2+2 with a good guy in the Netherlands about 4 months ago and he sent some pictures. It was a Superleggera and it was bodied by Carozzerria Touring. What a beauty, and one of the pictures had his 1yr old daughter strapped in a baby-seat in the back. It became one of my top 2+2's from the 60's especially now that I am sporting a 2 month old. It was priced too high, but I would love to introduce my son to his daughter!

Superleggera is a construction system patented by Touring in 1936,
It consists in a monocoque construction adopted from the aeronautical industry.

i just bought this car-it's supposed to arrive from england on thursday, which is a bit exciting (that was english understatement)...it's a 1c car converted to 3c (but i have all the original 1c bits)

i used to love the super sport, but i think as a design, the sport zagato is better overall-the back is so much nicer than the kamm tail..

it's as close as i can get to an aston db4 zagato, without the speed or the money, of course..:)

    What a sweet car!
One thing that puts me off Lancia's from the period is always the wheels. A sporty car like that, and those bulbuous hub-caps don't go together. Did Lancia offer a Borrani-option?

    Enjoy it!

    Best,

    Jack.

Flaminia wheels are a distinctive part of the car's special character, although I believe those on the Zagato above are the handsome Amadori mags or repros. The Borranis made for Aurelias and Flaminias have huge hubs and look odd to me, but judge for yourself (photos from Sports Car Digest).

agreed-i'm not a big borrani fan, esp on the lancia-it's a bit too fussy-PLUS, they're a huge pain in the arse to clean!

the ones on my car are very rare campagnolo magnesium wheels-v hard to find-they were also on the Osca 1600 GT Zagato, if i'm going to get all supernerdy about things..:)

Are they 15" (OSCA size) or 400mm (Flaminia size)?
