When is Alonso going to be fired

Let's look at this rationally:

What proof does DC have that Alonso is lacking motivation? Seriously, I think if the BBC told you the sun came up in the west you'd buy it...

Just because a driver is unhappy or frustrated doesn't mean they lack motivation. Alonso is incredibly tenacious and has been all year despite disappointing in-season development from Ferrari. He works his ass off in the races. The fact he's upset about how slow Ferrari is should tell you that he is MOTIVATED to win race and titles. He's pissed - he wants another championship. Alonso's move in Abu Dhabi, risking a high speed crash (catching air over some kerbs in the process) just to pass Vergne for something like 6th place didn't look like a driver that is lacking motivation. If he didn't care, he would pack it in, finish about where he qualifies every race (or worse), and cruise around collecting a paycheck. That's never the case for Alonso but it has been for a certain other Ferrari driver for years!

I think it's beyond obvious that Alonso is motivated to win races and work his hardest. I didn't see the DC interview, maybe you just didn't understand what he was saying because you seem to think being unhappy and unmotivated are the same thing. I find it hard to believe that DC would accuse FA of being unmotivated. Unhappy - probably, the Ferrari turned out to be a dud for about the 4th year in a row.

+1, Alonso haters frequently post nonsense acting like he is damaged goods that no one wants.

Boullier said he would take him in a heartbeat, even McLaren wants him back and he burned the hell out of that bridge. Doesn't matter now though - teams want the best and the team principals all know who it is.

The only obstacle would be another #1 driver vetoing Alonso. Somebody like Vettel, Kimi or Hami. But Vettel and Kimi likely have no problem with him anyway.

McLaren with Honda power in 2015 might just be the ticket if the turbo Ferrari blows (pun intended ).

 

Alonso has a contract and is well paid. He should shut his mouth and drive the car, and if he isn't happy, move on. There isn't enough cheese in the world for all the fn whiners.

 

Last I checked he's been driving the wheels off an inferior car for some years now. He wants to win at Ferrari and for Ferrari, and it's been pretty clear all that's been stopping that from happening has been the Ferrari he's been driving.

I would be surprised to see him go anywhere else, unless it's team Newey/Redbull.

There is only one reason he's not a 3 or 4 time champion for Ferrari & that's Adrian Newey.

As far as I can see he's done a fantastic job for Ferrari & if just once or twice he gave them a mild kick up the arse publicly then that's fine. Besides , as far as I know his criticism was hardly "stinging".

 

Oh its not negative. Who can doubt his motivation. As I posted in another thread it might be less(his motivation), because he see's his prime years being over shadowed by Red Bull and Vettel as his career enters a later phase. Until Ferrari give him a car he can put on the front row this will continue.

As i put in my first post to the OP in this thread he wont be fired before Stefano in my opinion. He has no better option and I think he gives it one more good year then really starts looking around more so than he did recently. Its just F1.

The thing is more and more reports from decent sources come out about his unhappiness. That is news worthy but happiness comes and goes. By Jan testing he might be over all that and ready to blunt Kimi.

 

You know that wanting and being able are not the same thing quite often. Actually, I´d bet that if there was a seat at Red Bull Alonso, Hamilton and others would already be there. Mercedes have both drivers under contract, and McLaren-Honda right now is a big question mark. Lotus? They even can´t pay!

Ferrari is not great. But it´s the less terrible option for Alonso right now. In 2015 maybe there will be others, but who knows.

 

+1, this is exactly my point of view. I guess that at this stage in his career, one Grand Prix win more, one less, doesn't matter very much to him. What he really wants is that elusive third title. I have no doubt that his batteries will be fully recharged at the beginning of next season, and he will give it a go.
As others have already said, the next steps depend very much on the car; should the team fail to deliver a competitive car next year, then he will be at the crossroads at the end of the season, at the age of 33: change for another team to catch that elusive third title, or persist?
I guess he is a bit tired, because, as every F1 enthusiast knows, Ferrari is a highly political and volatile environment. Anybody having been in Italy once in his/her life on a Monday morning, when Ferrari was expected to win the day before but did not, has a slight idea of the emotional charge there is on that team. And it must be tiresome, sometimes.

No I completely agree. I don't blame any of them having motivational problems right now with Vettel being overwhelmingly quick. A race driver goes for the win, the rest doesn't matter.

As soon as the lights are out though they all mean business as usual, and fight to be first of the losers. Alonso clearly demonstrated that on Sunday...

 

I don´t give much credit to what coulthard says, because as far as i know he is not exacly Alonso´s best friend..it´s like when Damon Hill talked about shumi retirement....D.C is a comentator and as to say something...
I remenber once in 2008, KImi had the pole, and Felipe snatched it just in the last moment, and there was a huge party in the Ferrari garage..that was the first time i started to think theres was something wrong...Kimi managet talked about thaty with Luca, and those mechanics where no longer in the garage the next race!! Do you guys remenber a bald one, who always held the drivers helmets? he was one of them....Alonso was geting a lot of aplauses from the garage but not so much lately, just the other day he did a great move and nobody cheered or claped...this kind of litle things can show you how the mood towards the driver as changed....Do you guys honestly belive Luca would have resigned Kimi (implicitly admiting he was an ass when he fired him) if All was well with Alonso?
Yes, i very much dislike Alonso (because unlike some, i don´t forget people who badmouth Ferrari at every oportunity and then claim theyr love to the team when it´s convinient, and also because i know Alonso would swap ferrari for another team in a heartbeat if he thought it had a better car...and if needed he would do to Ferrari exacly what he did to Mclaren.) but despite that, and my wish to see him out of there, i still believe he won't be around for long...anyway, as someone said, at least for nex year it will be fun to watch Kimi vs Alonso.

What evidence do you have of Alonso being "unmotivated?"

You say it's the truth, so let's hear it. Unhappy, I will give you that. Any top driver would be unhappy with the car he has. But unmotivated? Not a chance.

Personally, I say he's 2nd in the WDC in the 4th fastest car (again). That takes motivation.

 

The thing that concerns me the most is how Ferrari builds a wind tunnel and it gives them false information. The last 3 years they have not been able to improve on the car's design and make it competitive. This I would wager to say is a fact, if they manage to produce a competitive car or even a winning car it will be down to luck as they've had all the resources and funds in the world and only produced junk at best in the past 3 years.

 

Alonso function in life is to win WDC's.
Ferrari's is to win WCC's.
Each is looking for the best opportunity to do that.
All the best seats are taken and spoken for or restricted (by Vettle for example).
They should both shut up and get on with it.

 

WCC = Business
WDC = Victory & Glory

If you speak with anyone from the paddock/teams 99% of them will tell you that their #1 priority is to win the wdc, not the wcc.

 

Dumb question but does Ferrari have the deep pockets to spend on R & D that a team like Red Bull or Mercedes does?

 

I doubt it.

A year ago I read an interview with Domenicalli where he stated that they hadn´t the funds to build and test as many wing variations as Red Bull.

About Mercedes, I don´t know, but I guess that right now they´re spending like there´s no tomorrow.

actually the current status of the f1 team is a good news for ferrari road car owners, as we know italian just cannot done two things right at the same time. If we look back the history, ferrari always made terrific road cars when they are ****ty at F1, or the other around.

 

I don´t know, the Enzo and the F430 were not too terrible and back then they were at their peak in F1.

But in 1980 they were not so good at F1 and made the Mondial. (now I hope that Mondial owners don´t want to emasculate me, actually I wish I owned one).

 

Well, they pulled Rory Byrne off designing road cars to help w the F1 team again this season so that's gotta be some disadvantage to current-future road going car development right?
