Lots of drivers win in Newey cars, big deal. He's built more championship winners than anyone. Newey is the genius. Let's see Vettel beat Newey creations as Schumacher did. Alonso is currently stuck in a pit at Ferrari that Montezemolo and Domenicali dug, this has nothing to do with Alonso. Vettel would be hard pressed to perform the magic many of the drivers did with the machinery at hand. Having a car that consistently has half a second in its pocket makes it easy doesn't it, that's Vettel. Winning a dozen races in a season tells me nothing about a driver, but more about the designer of the car. If Marko was so confident in Vettel they would have signed Kimi. You know good and well they were terrified Kimi would intimidate and often best Vettel and God knows they dont want that.
I think that a big part of the problem for Vettel is that no one is able to get close to him and race him wheel to wheel at the moment. This has made the races (and Championships), relatively easy for him to win. Lets face facts here, this season, you watch qualifying and if Vettel gets pole position, you pretty much know who's won the race! If he doesn't get pole position then you watch the start of the race and if he gets into turn 1 in first place then you pretty much know who's won the race! If he doesn't get into turn 1 first then you watch the entire first lap and if he gets into the lead on that lap then you pretty much know he's won the race! If he's not in the lead after the first lap but Webber is and Vettel is second then you know Vettel will win the race! If he's not first or second on the first lap then you'll get your hopes up that someone else might win and end up disappointed! Basically he's made F1 predictable, and as any woman will tell you, predictable is boring! It lacks excitement! - Being unpredictable is exciting! - exciting entertains! (A handy tip there for the Married men on here! - A big cause of many marriage break-ups is monotony brought on by routine and predictability! Try being a bit spontaneous and less predictable every once in a while to bring some excitement into her life! ). F1 fans are exactly the same as a bored, married woman - Fed up with the predictability and the same old - same old, lack of excitement! We don't want every race to be the same every time! We want to have things spiced up a bit! At the moment, once Vettel gets into the lead, the fans no longer care about the race win, the real excitement comes from those racing behind him. Now imagine if Vettel was having to go wheel to wheel with someone like Alonso or Hamilton and he was actually in the weaker package but still able to push and battle for race wins. would he get a lot more support? - I suspect he would! He doesn't help his cause with his annoying finger salute, his arrogant attitude towards his team-mate (Who can forget his slightly bored: "Get mark out of My way! - He's too slow!" when he was still @ 30 car lengths behind Webber), or deliberately ignoring the team orders, and for many, being German will go against him as well. I suspect though, that in reality, outside of the car, he's a very likeable guy and if he were the under-dog battling against all odds to win then he'd get a much better reception from the fans. Being the dominant driver in F1 though is always going to create an element of backlash - That's just a part of Human nature for many people!
