When I was looking for a 308 last year I came across a V12 engined 308. I guess this could be the car. From memory it was in an auction. In the Historics catalogue it says it was recommissioned this year so maybe it was sold last year, the buyer had the work done and now has put it up for sale?

From the H&H auction catalogue 2002 - "It has been in storage since 1998, with its last trip out being at the Ferrari Gran Premio Nuvolari Rally in Italy of that year, and the mileage of 43,000 miles shown on the odometer can be confirmed as correct from new." It didn't sell.

From a post on Ferrarichat in 2006 as well as Mansell's car the Earl of Bath had a V12 308. although as Mansell's garage is in the same area as the Earl it could have been the same car.

I think it was C&D that did a story on one back in the mid 80's. That isn't that car, so there are two out there.

There was a pretty long thread around here on doing this several years ago

I seem to recall reading somewhere (probably on here!) that there are maybe 5 known V12 308s.

And then there is the monster that's being built just now (as referred to earlier). Current estimates/computer models on that one are showing somewhere between 900 & 1000hp I believe :D

    Check out post number 36.

This is my favorite post in that entire thread.

Just for the record he NEVER owned any "4th car". Charlie Boy did have a Ferrari in his garage and he did have a V12 in his garage but that 12 cylinder motor never EVER made it into the back of his 1980 308 GTSi. Never did. Now, he had all intentions of it, I guess, but - and this is just my opinion - the engine has to be IN the car and the car has to drive itself down the road with it in it to qualify. At the very least it needs to make it into the car. That I think we can all agree to.

I hate blocking links to other sites, but most major sites do it now unfortunately.

Really cool car - thanks for posting. What an ugly engine bay it ends up with though - ha!

    isn't a 512 bbi essentially a 308 with a TR engine?

Keith- If you equate a 48 valve TR engine to a 24 valve BBi engine, with the radiators in different places, sure.

Most? Not my mileage at all. In fact, I've only ever seen it happen on this one.

In some ways yes, similar styling with the nod going to the BBI. Completly different engine, tranny, rear ssupension, and dimension layout, and a BB is aluminum. So maybe styliticaly from the same book/era as the 308 and some switches the same. theya lso drive very differently.

A BB and a Tr are very similar. The TR has more or less the same motor but with 4 valves clean up emissions and keep power with cats. More Hp 375 vs 360 and less low down torque. The Chassis and suspension are more or less the same, but the wheelbase is extebnded for the Tr. The rads are moved from the front to the sides making it all wider and more rear biased, and it weighs 400lbs more. Plus the TR shape is really an aquired taste.

So yes if you were going to do a 12 cyl 308 and were the factory the BBi is more or less it.

The TR more like a 12 cyl 348.

I saw my first 512 BBI up close when I had the 430 in for a some minor adjustments. It was black and looked MEAN. I loved it.
