Hey all you brothers. Below is a tool fabricated from discarded items made by own own FBB in his garage amid the stacked wheels, various and sundry tools and appliances, and a few cars, some of which are actually not up on blocks - cinder of course.

So what is this and what's it for? The first should be less difficult, but the second is tricky. I have heard tell that Plugzit actually has one of these, so he's disqualified. HINT - it is not a marital aid item.

Successful ID will insure your induction in the Stooge Hall of Shame.

On second thought, is it to change the bearings for the tentioner and idler pulleys? To press out the inner shaft?

Simple, it gets wrapped around your sack and you apply one turn of pressure each time you consider doing your own major at home. Works great too!

Heh, heh. Actually it was FBB's attempt to remove a separated bearing race on a BMW 3 series rear axle hub. We discovered TIG welding an old 3-arm bearing puller doesn't work very well. Something about cheap Chinese pot metal welding to carbon steel. I ended up using a Dremell to cut a clean line in the race, then whacked it with a cold chisel to crack it open. Easy peesy, but FBB and I had fun playing with the big boy tools. :) Seems these beraring races are really solid pieces until you damage their structural integrity; then they crack like cheap crystal.

Another shot of it. At the 6 o'clock point you can see the crack in the race.

Sometimes you just need brute force when you don't have the right tools.
