Any test if the K&N airfilter (or other) will improve performance?

To my fellows Brother. The gentlemen from FabSpeed shared a first glimpse video of my car on the dyno. Let me tell you, it sounds like a beast. It still has the Capristo F1 wail, but there is an underlying deep tone that really wakes it up. Out of respect for FabSpeed, I will wait for them to post there video after they edit. Job well done. Evan and Chris have really done justice for the 348 Brotherhood. Can wait to see what happens as the experiment with the intake.

Looking forward to seeing the video, and how the rest of the mods go.

Performed this dyno test tonight. Sad to say the K&N did not produce any more power. When comparing best runs, there is a 3-4 whp gain shown, but this is not maintained to redline, where the engine is looking to breathe most. In my opinion this is not a legitimate gain caused by the K&N.

Dave, your car sounds awesome. I can't wait to test the headers with the catbypass pipes. If they make the same difference in power as they did with Sport Cats, we will be up around 296whp.

This is not something I wish to share. All I will say is, bigger is not always better.

Here is a pic of them installed on Dave's car....I really didn't take any off the car before we installed because these are "prototypes", so they won't be as pretty as the production versions. We are building another set for Dave, we will use these as our fixture pieces. Dave's are being sent to Jet Hot for their 2000 Ceramic coating.

The design of these is such that they can also use our heat blankets that I designed for the 355/360 headers.

    Understanable.

The reason I asked was because of the deeper note. So I guess it has more to do with the 4-1 collector then.

Whatever the case, I'm glad to see I won't be the only one with some custom headers on his 348. That and, now maybe more guys will start modifying their 348s. The 348 is underpowered, and thanks to your efforts, now there is an option for the 348 to begin making the power it is capable of.

In what world is this thing underpowered you Stooge-face?! What, 330 gross HP isn't good enough for you?! The car accelerates like a banshee now and ours are way better than stock. I personally don't need more, but it would be nice to have 355 numbers at least (375 HP and I'd quit), and do it at 500 rpm less! You should convert your drop gears to mine. That would get you some more oomph!

Bah, going to turbo the car and run nitrous. FBB is right. Cheap power for bragging rights! LOL :D

In my world it isn't, and no 330hp isn't enough. I won't be happy until I crack at the very least 400+hp naturally aspirated.

Speaking of cubic dollars....what did the 358 dyno on conservative tune? I forget.

Me too. But it was shy of 400.
Now, if we just had DeeGee's lemans motor, that would be another story!

    Chris,

Is the 286whp with the ECU tuning and intake mods or before?

I don't think that will be possible with stock 10.4:1 pistons.

We hit 286whp with only the cat bypass pipes and no other mods. The car was running on the lean side so I did not bolt the headers on to test with the cat bypass pipes as I was afraid of melting your pistons!

The ECU tuning has commenced and we are starting with the 348 Challenge programming, and will work from there.

    Kai,

I will be gathering some information together for a group buy when the headers are done being tested and ready for production.

I wish you all could hear this car from my desk at night when Chris is running it on the dyno, she screams! Even from the opposite end of the building it sounds like the car is sitting right next to you :D

This is the best that I can come up with and why I offered to dyno another stock 355 for free. We got a bad tach signal and so when you compare the cars referencing engine speed, this is the graph I get. Dynojet has a "RPM Signal Advanced Filtering" feature that allows a more complete graph, but it is not recommended to use as it basically just fills in the missing data.

Stock to stock the 355 makes less power up to 4400, where it starts to make about 11 whp more than a stock 348. At 5400 the cars equalize, then at 5700 the 355 starts to make significantly more power than a stock 348.

When you put catbypass pipes on the 348, it makes more power than a stock 355 up until 7000.

I really would like another stock (aftermarket muffler is ok as we have a stock one here we can swap in) '95 355 to back up this graph.

On the below graph, the bottom red line is a stock 348.

The green line that is incomplete is a stock 355.

The top, dark blue line is the 348 with catbypass pipes.

    This warms my heart :D

Thank you VERY MUCH for posting it.

I bet the numbers will be even more impressive after ecu tuning.

It would be nice to see a "355 vs fabspeed modded 348" chart with correct RPMs for each ........ however I now prefer the Hub Dyno, as it uses the actual gear ratios instead of that temperamental and problematic magnetic spark plug clamp of the Dynojet. Not to mention there is no tire slippage on a Hub Dyno .... ;)
