Geez, you can buy half a Mondial for that price. I'd love to have one for my 328, but at that price, it ain't ever happening. I thought some of the prices I was hearing in prior threads were ridiculous, but this is beyond laughable. It is well into the joke region, no matter how "rare" it is.

Who would actually pay this.. It's like seeing people asking $1,900+ for TRX wheels and tires. Going rate is like $500 for those things.

I'm loosely interested depending on the final design and price. I would be interested to hear more. Thanks!

Saratoga tops are a hot commodity in the Porsche 944 world, too. If I am not mistaken, the guy who originally made the Saratoga tops has been commissioned to make more of them, and for a reasonable price compared to what the used ones sell for. I'm not sure if that project ever reached fruition --- there is discussion about it on rennlist and pelican parts forum that involves Mr. Saratoga Top Guy himself, IIRC.

I always think glass roofs are cool, and I'd certainly enjoy one on whatever car I had, but I the demand for these old Saratoga tops is driven more by the "you can't have it" factor than by people's actual want for a glass sunroof. I don't think as many people would want one or be willing to pay as much as they are now if they were readily available!

In my case I actually would be interested at a reasonable price. My main reason would be that I drive my car year round, and here in New Jersey we have a lot of gloomy, gray days. I think a Saratoga top would make drives on those kind of days more fun, and would probably make the interior seem roomier too, which would be a plus.

A 308 Saratoga top sold in California this year for $6,000. It was perfect. And think of all the 308's in L.A. I think an attorney bought it, probably just a day's pay for him. There are few period accessoroies for a 308. The Saratoga is one of them for sure. Maybe a nardi wheel, some "d dusters", ansa pipes, a bra. That's about all I can think of and the Saratoga by far is the coolest one of the group. I would like to get a different air cleaner, maybe a foam/wire mesh job for the carbs. Anyone know of brand that will let me show off part of the webers?

    I don't get it...

I don't get the appeal of such a device or the price people are willing to pay. But, as I said, I don't get it; obviously some folks do. :)

I have to admit I find the constant contradiction interesting...the "I'm doing [X] to make the car as Enzo intended it," (actually he didn't care at all) while at the same time clearly doing the opposite. But hey, we are an interesting species. ;)

    Mike,

My 80515 has its Saratoga Top on for about six months, and I absolutely love it; when you live in a region with mixed weather, it make you enjoy the car a lot; it let more light enter in the interior when the sky is gray, and makes it also roomier and gives you a bit more head clearance. It may sound silly, but I like it a lot...

Would one of you fellas enlighten me?

That appears to be a smokey clear top?

    Glass? Plexiglas?

Is it aftermarket or Ferrari supplied?

    I've never heard of it.

    Thanks!

Aftermarket, made during the eighties by the Saratoga C°, (New York state I believe). The rumor has it that only a small number - about 200 ? - were made. The material is Lexan.
Takes place of the standard targa Top, same dimensions, same locking pins, same locking device: no modification necessary.

Yes, they do indeed look great on black cars, and are indeed very cool when it rains, which happens sometimes in regions of "mixed weather" (with excuses for a pic that has already been posted)

I'd buy if remade at a reasonable cost and the fixings were easy to source & install. What were these list price back in the day?

It's the badge price. Sad part is, they bought it for 9999.00. They're just trying to recoup their funds.

Maybe I am missing something, didn't we just have a thread asking how many owners of GTS use their tops and found most don't

If we don't use the tops, and leave them in the garage, why would you pay $10,000 for more spare parts?

Help me understand, I am a bit confused.

10,000 is outrageous, no one is going to pay that. Even so, what difference does it make what top you don't take off your car?

(I didn't pay ten large for mine)

For me it is like having to top off in the winter or at least the colder days. Hell, it really isn't bad in the middle of the summer. I have been in mine on 100 degree days and I had to put the top back on just for the shade.

These things are great for having it both ways, I guess. At least it is for me
