I have the seats out of my 355 Spider to redo some of the wiring that a previous owner messed up. All of the under seat wires were disconnected. What I see is one lead that goes to the seat motor, one for the potentiometer, and one lead (from the cars wiring) that doesn't seem to have a connector in the seat. It is the connector in the middle. Is this right that it is not used or am I missing something?

    Thanks,

    Rick

There is an unused connector under the seat.

Ah, that would explain the "James Bond Edition" in the ownership papers.

Is that middle connector for the seatbelt latch indicator...??

My '95 355 spider has an additional connector under the seat which leads from the seatbelt harness - it is for a light on the dashboard (top and right side of instrument cluster) which indicates whether the seatbelt is latched (unlit) or un-latched (lit) when the car is started.

    Cheers,
    Richard

One more note... mine is a standard 355 spider, I didn't opt for the "James Bond" package:)

Pretty sure there is a separate harness for the seat belt indicator, just on the drivers seat. The extra connector that I am showing is on each side (one for each seat).

    Hi Rick,

I took a look at the parts diagram for the seat, and it appears that some kind of jumper is attached to that connector.

See item 92 in the attached diagram that refers to P/N 167924 "Jumper for Relay".

I'll take a look under my seat to see if I have a jumper attached to mine also.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, there is a jumper that is attached to that connector (it's circled in the attached photo). This jumper is an inexpensive part that you can probably order from Ricambi America. Part number is in my previous post.

Interesting. And thank you for the information.

When I look at Ricambi it identifies that part as "bracket", but when I click on the part number for more info it says "cable". Do you know if it is just something to close off the unused connector to keep it clean, or is there anything in it? Does it connect those 2 unused wires together? I'll see what I can find out from the wiring diagram. Any chance you want to pull it off and see if it has any electrical connection inside?

UPDATE: Just checked the Ricambi site again, this time looking at the M2.7 section (mine is the M5.2) and it says "jumper for relay". So maybe that jumper is used on the earlier cars, but not used on the later 5.2 ones.

I'll still see if the wiring diagrams help at all with identifying what that does.

Yeah there seems to be a lot of "phatom" wiring on these cars. I have my dash completely off right now getting re covered and there is a bunch of..well its just a big mess is all I can say...

I'm about to pull my dash out for recovering as well. I can see some remnants of a radar detector that was installed so I'm sure I'll find some phantom wires in there too.

I found an old thread where you were asking about this extra wiring. Did you ever conclude whether the 2 wires in it should be left "open" or shorted together? Does it matter?

    thank you,

    Rick
