Yes, believe it or not, Nissan can make a car that's faster around the Ring then Porsche (and at 1/8 the price). Some 918 buyers might even switch to a GT-R because of that.

I suspect Porsche learned a lot by taking apart a GT-R and probably an old 300ZX as well with Super HICAS.

Some may even consider the GT-R a purer form of the 918 (batteries not included).

I think cars that are ultimately meant for the road, which also goes for these so called hyper cars, will reach their limits pretty quickly at The Ring. At some point you are going to need specialized tires and added downforce to gain time at places like Flugplatz, Schwedenkreutz and Pflanzgarten.

Id say it's more similar to a muscle car than a can am car.

Just not a big V-8 fan in general. But I do think the 918,458 and some others have made a real nice sound lately.

The P1, not so much imho.

    I agree with this.

Dont get me wrong a muscle car V8 sound and feel on the chest is great. Just better engine notes out there.

The deepness of the P1 in the cockpit I am sure is unreal.

A lot of the Can Am cars were fitted with those muscle car motors like the 427 CI Chevy & 429 CI Ford motors.

The P1 definitely has that muscle car sound, but it really would be classified as a very small V8. It's those twin turbo's providing the huge power source producing that sound. Because P1 is turbocharged it's never going to sound as good as a NA V8 or V12 found in the 918 and LaF with tuned pipes.

As far as these cars providing a kick in the --s. Here's a cool comparison. A sprint cup motor is producing approximately 825 hp with around 450 ft/lbs of torque. These "road cars" are producing > 900 hp and a staggering 750-900 ft/lbs of torque. OMG

These manufacturers are producing machines that were only the dreams of motor heads. What a time

If the GTR can go sub-7:10, I'm sure the P1 will as well.

noone: You said a lot right there. The ACR viper ran 7:12 at the Ring. I own one, and it is the least preferred car in my collection when going out for a nice ride. It really is just a single purpose track vehicle. This is the very reason I am excited about the P1 with its adjustable suspension attributes which can be selected to optimize either road or track use.

Its time for the once a month recap of how this thread has performed. This is a highly accurate and purely factual summary, no need to read the former comments.

    (1) The Ferrari-people are impressed by the 918's ring time (6:57)
    (2) The Ferrari-people are not impressed by McLaren's ring rumoured ring time (7:04) and disappointed that McLaren has not released an official time
    (3) McLaren people claim the time is somewhere between the speed of light and a 6:47
    (4) Jim posted an equation he found on the internet after he was actually searching for equestrian pornography. The equation led him to further research physics, then commission a one-off time machine with Horacio Pagani called the Ferrari P4/PDeLorean
    (5) Jim went back in time, talked to Isaac Newton about physics then paraphrased conservation of energy on the forum
    (6) Erik said something along the lines of "lalalalala" McLaren is awesome "Lalalalalala". He also provided a few objective facts and comments which were immediately removed due to over-stimulus in an internet forum.
    (7) Ferrari people read said facts and were confused when the words "Sounds","Passion","Steering feel","Resale value" weren't explicitly repeated at a 2:1 ratio

    Did I miss anything?

IMO the perfect car would have the looks, the engine and the interior of the LaF, the 4wd, 4ws and hybrid systems of the 918 and the suspensions from the P1.

Well, P1s are in owner's hands and plenty of drive impressions are out there now. Everyone seems very pleased with it.

An interesting thing on the GTR video is the speed on the final straight. 310 on the compression they say. The vbox video of the 918 shows 290ish...

The plot is very thick right now.

Reports on mclaren life have people praising the acceleration like something unimaginable and close to a 90´s f1 car (which of course it isn't).

In the end, unless the these cars are not up to standard, both the laferrari and the P1 (In track not race mode, taking away any claim of too low for the ring, etc), should be below the this GTR, don't you agree? And how much would doubling the downforce, lowering the car, and stiffening the springs on the P1 in Race mode drop this time? Either the Mac is very fast or at least as fast as the others in non track mode, or these cars have some fundamental issue we have not understood yet.

Yeah, I believe Porsche chose to leave a little wiggle room with that restricted speed on the final straight... even without the batteries, it should easily pass 300 kmh over there.
Combined with the improved performance spec and a working rear wing, it would probably be quite a bit faster than 6:57...

So an extra £750,000 or $1.25m for 4 seconds? Or in Porsches case a little bit less for a little bit more. Have we reached the point of diminishing returns or are these Hybrids underperforming?

The Porsche will be faster and the McLaren didn't do a 7:04.

I said it didn't do a 7:04. I know that it went much faster than that because I've been told so. Do you really think it's just 4 seconds faster than the GT-R Nismo?

    Better brakes.
    More powerful = Better acceleration.
    Way more downforce.
    Lighter.

    Come on. ;)

could be, but than again, even standard GT-R brakes are rather good and I would expect NISMO GT-R to have an exceptional braking system.

yes, but it cant put that power down on the road as efficiently as GT-R or indeed any other 4WD car can

Indeed, but debatable on just how much it can generate on something as bumpy and uneven as Nring is.

    I'll give it that.
