911 Values drop like a rock

I think you are right. 996 turbos were at its lowest point about two years ago and have slowly crept up. The same thing for the GT variants. Plain 996s are still dropping in price, but at a much slower rate than before. I think the prices for new Porsches is bringing up 996 values. I looked at a 981 Cayman S and MSRP was $85k!

Porsche marketing could have just as easily picked 356 as the official model designation or waited to make 993 the official model designation. It was just a marketing talk to use 911 as the series number, because a 991 is less like a 911 than a 356.
They are all great cars in their own right but saying they are the same car is just useless hot air that has no real meaning or help when having a conversation about Porsche.
The price difference between a 911 and a 964 and a 993 and so on is distinctive as is the driving experience.
So the title of this thread is right if talking about the later "911's" and totally wrong when talking about the early "911's"
So a passing reader will think "clueless" or " right on" depending on the 911 picked.
It would have been better to have the thread title '997 price's drop like a rock'

 

Entertaining thread. The OP bought the absolute wrong car at the wrong time. Sorry but you should have some some homework.

FYI - RS 4.0's are going for $350K!!! CRAZY!! 993 Turbo S's are over $175K

 

If you can afford the hit, why not? I agree 4.0RS very desirable, would love to have one but there are so many others I would love to have but can't.

 

He's talking about buying NEW Porsche... not used. First year depreciation.

 

What about 2010-2011 997.2 GT3 (not the RS)?
I see asking prices from $89-$119k depending on mileage and options. Do you think they will hold up as the last manual tranny Porsche or will the crowd all go to PDK?

Agreed, op should have done some more research if he was buying as a long term investment. I'd say any factory lightweight or clubsport model is a good way to go. 964 USA cup with 260 miles just sold for $190k, absolute steal. RPM has a Low mileage (10k mile) '97 993 turbo S for $345k. But remember that the USA turbo S is a bit neutered compared with the euro version. In years to come, what ROW buyer will be looking for a USA spec car?
