How maintain rubber mouldings on Mondial.

    I'v seen some older Mondials with wrinkled rubber mouldings around the rear window. The rubber mouldings I mean are those who come from the roof to the rearbonnet (see picture). How do you maintain those mouldings to avoid those wrinkles ? And if wrinkled is there a possibility to repair ?

    BMW has a product called "Gummiflage" which they sell for maintaining these kind of rubber gaskets. One of the guys on the e31 board tested it and found out it was only glycerine with a little blue dye in it. So I go to the drugstore and buy plain old glycerine and brush it on all my rubber parts and have never had one rip, crack or distort due to heat.

    I will give it a try. Probable glycerine will gleam or shine the surface and the original dull-tone will disappear. Any other options ?

    Guido,

    Apply the glycerine sparingly. It might make the rubber look a bit shiney for a day or so, but as it's absorbed into the rubber it will take on a dull appearance again. I've used glycerine for years on automotive rubber weather stripping with excellent results. Glycerine is different than rubber dressing and will keep the rubber stripping pliable.

    I was thinking about making fibre grass replacements and putting them into colour as per 308?.
    If successful I will post pictures of the result
