Fabulous stuff. If I remember right, that steel front clip weighs something like 40lbs. What does a door weigh in its current state?

It is glass, will weigh the doors as they were heavier than I thought, the glass and lift motor are the heavy items. I will try and keep a weight roll up of what has been saved.

Yes, however the front end is certainly not factory original as there is a split to the dash part of the moulding, so has been replaced at some time, and then glassed back to the dash. One of the arch liners was also a bit of a patchwork of glass and ally. So far it has been fairly easy to tear down, no seized fixings so can hopefully get on re-configuring the front end fairly quickly

Brake booster now out and the rest of the bulkhead stripped. The AC unit has also been taken out, which again was fairly heavy. Trial fit of the pedal box, which fits the plate perfectly plus the pedals miss the steering column.

ARB clamps and suspension is already ready. Next job is to strip the dash and interior out, and then work out a cage design.

The pedal box, booster is also a surprisingly heavy item, the new pedal box will allow for adjustable brake balance, plus an hydraulic clutch! Will get that welded up now I know it fits!

Progress may slow a bit now as I now need to start making templates for the coverings on the bulkhead before I lay these up in Kevlar. There is also a bit of working out to be done so I can get the boxer wiper and mech into the car.

Hate to say this but 712 – 1. Sorry you did not use a steel car for your project. Hope the finished project comes out as you wish.

This evenings progress has seen the whole of the front harness now out, the dash out and the front panel now taken off. The only issue on the harness was the windscreen wiper motor connector, large rectangular connector, small round hole - bit of a mystery how they assembled this in the first place

Also visible is the joint between the old dash pod and the new front end as the joint line is clearly visible inside the car where new glass fibre joins the parts.

Dash was a bit of pain as it sits under a channel and some bright spark had decided to glue the centre.

Hopefully I will be able to configure the rear so I can run either the wide Michelotto rear end or the standard narrow clip.

Another evening and should be able to start on the templates for the front bulkhead covers, which will also give a marginal increase in foot space.

Fantastic build. Where did u source the michelotto type flares? There look pretty close to the originals

What are the plans for reinforcing the chassis? I've notice the gr4 m-cars double ups some of the buttress members and added extra triangulation to the strengthen standard chassis. i was always curious on how much of the original chassis was retain unaltered.

I'd be interested in finding out how much weight you removed and how add back on with reinforcements or safety equipment

    Regards.

    +1

I've seen pictures of some of the original Michelotto added cross members here and there, then there's what Mat do which builds a bit on the original Michelotto additions, specifically the mounting areas. Mat have also entered the 308 chassis into a CAD program which points out the higher stressed areas which is what lead to their additions.

Will be replicating most of the chassis reinforcements, in fairness most of it is just triangulating the suspension mounting points. All fairly basic stuff. There are some mods at the front and rear to mount the radiator and rear body. The whole rear clip is from Garage Donati taken from original cat, the front lid and rear engine cover from Makela in Finland. I guess at the moment there is probably a new save of 50kg, plan is to try and weigh all the bits removed that are not required for the re-assembly.

Yes the standard 308 chassis lacks basic triangulation. Part of the reason is to get accessibility to the drivetrain for service while the front is somewhat inexcusable :). I reckon by adding a few more members stregically would go a long ways.

Great that they had access to splash a mold from the org cars. I recall mat looking at the mat site they fabricated theirs flares from photos.

    Hi Simon

I love where you are going with this but aren't you just a wee bit worried that when you get to drive that countach this is just going to get pushed into a corner of the garage??

Will be watching how this goes as I have had similar thoughts myself..
