Another example of the F tax is the battery positive cable: Ferrari 1500.00 and Ricambi 150.00! I kid you not. This is on a 89 348tb. FWIW. Jeff Pintler 89 348tb, 86tr,99 360 3pedal
So, would it be better to replace them with remanufactured or get stock recalibrated? Because, that looks like a great deal..
I've used RC Engineering several times in the past. I wasn't aware of the major price increases, but I have heard their customer service is not what it used to be.
I am tempted to switch to the 4 hole style injectors. What little I have read about them so far, is they atomize the fuel better. If that is indeed the case, then one would see lower exhaust temps and better MPG ...... I will continue my research on these ......
Here is a video that illustrates the 'better atomization' claims for the 4 hole vs single pintle type injectors. However I am not certain the narrow spray pattern of single pintle injectors in this test arrangement, was a good representative example ...... however if this comparison is truly characteristic, then the 4 hole injectors are looking good ..... so far ...... Just something to be aware of when making your selection, should one decide on making this change. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2ne6AVnF2k[/ame]
I think I sent mine to rc engineering it was about 250 to get them cleaned they give yOu a print out before and after explaining specs and differences.
Great post Goth, vid #2 demonstrates how injectors improve over the years. The 355 injectors are the best the early 90's had to offer and the 348s are a step older than that. A properly matched (impedance, flow, form factor etc) current generation injector would be an improvement over the stock ones. If I had a failed/failing injector(s) I would send it off to one of the well known shops for them to find a nice match with a better spray pattern.
Speaking of injectors some of you might call bull**** but on my old 750 cc super bikes I ran dyno tests with standard spark plugs, split fire, and NGk race plugs right from Japan that were 175 dollars each back in 1994 and the spitfires gave me 3 more horsepower. If we didn't see it with our own eyes we would have never believed it. The t est was repeated twice to confirm results. This equated to about 2 percent more power. The NGk expensive plugs did nothing other than maybe under race conditions keep the engine a little cooler but this was speculation. I agree with the new injectors but you will have to dyno before and after to see if it actually helps.
Totally, and expect exactly about that 2%, not worth replacing your current set but worth it if you need to replace one of our magic injectors that costs as much as a set of premium modern ones.
And therein lies the rub. The matching is the most important factor. I haven't done any research on the subject, but I know a certain Ferrari Tech that has found truly substantial HP/torque gains with injector optimization, possibly in combination with a slight ECU remap. On another note, these Chinese knock-offs are becoming a major PITA. It seems no matter what security precaution to actual manufacturer takes, the Chinese circumvent it (e.g., Hill Engineering). Even obtaining patent protection in China doesn't give you security. Unless their government become actively involved in reducing this behavior, China will never really progress out of the Third World and its' associated mentality.
Chinese manufacture is really becoming a problem and effecting all of us. We get bad parts, nonfunctioning critical items, and poor food quality. I bought juice for nephew did not notice package says "made from concentrate from china". I threw it out! Right now having problems with brand new medical sterilizer. Company was German top of the line. Later iterations of same device sold under new name as German company no longer involved. Now current version is failing right out of the new box. I suspect chinese parts failure. We can accept no failures in medical sterilizers!!!!
I am glad that Vince brought these injectors up. So far I think it is very worthwhile to go the 4 hole injector route. There is nothing but good that can come of installing a proper matched set of these. One of the biggest benefits would be 'combustion efficiency', which results in getting more heat energy from a given A/F intake charge and thus fewer hydrocarbons ending up in the exhaust and the catalytic converters. This would reduce exhaust temps in general and allow the cats a less hostile operating environment ... So even if there are little to no noticeable HP benefits, there will be improved MPG and may even allow engine oil to stay cleaner a tad longer. Because unburnt fuel or hydrocarbons contaminates engine oil and reduces its ability to do its job ...
Very good info! Guess we just have to be careful on our purchase. The spray really did look better on those newer ones. That would definetly help the combustion.
