Something weird happened yesterday. I was really getting on my car chasing a Viper. Got up to 4th gear when I let up on the gas. Downshifted to 3rd and I heard a brief grinding noise as if it missed a gear and the gear indicator light was flashing the number 3. Then went normally into 2nd gear. Happened again when I got back up to speed and downshifted again. Then drove normally. Today I took her out for a quick spin and again downshifted from 4th to 3rd and this time no sound just flashing 3 again then shifted normally. It seems to miss 3rd gear all of a sudden. Just had clutch and throw out bearing changed about 1k miles ago. Car was at normal operating temp. I also upgraded to the higher amp relay over the summer. I do have a heat soak issue from time to time when going into reverse when the car is real hot. Won't stay in reverse when this happens. Is this my F1 pump telling me something?

I've had the flashing indicator light happen a few times but no driving or performance problems associated with it. Wish I could be more help but the flashing indicator light in and of itself doesn't seem to be an issue from what I can tell. A little bit of a guess but I suspect your issue is more related to the actuators. Are you getting the F! gearbox light or just the indicator light?

My mechanic told me that it can be a problem with the actuator. Could be a good idea to connect the SD2 and reset the F1 ecu.

No F1 light. Only time when that comes on is when engine is real hot and I'm in traffic or R to 1st and vise versa after a long trip. This is happening when I'm really getting on her and sifting at high RPM. Happened again yesterday when shifting hard from 3rd to 4th. Missed the gear and went into N. Then again when hauling ass then downshifting from 4th to 3rd during high RPM. I heard a "zip" which sounded like a clutch slip or something then it went into N with the number "3" flashing. If it were the pump, wouldn't the F1 light be flashing as it does when there is heat soak when I'm in traffic or going into R? This is baffling me. Want to do the 360 F1 pump swap but not sure if this is related. I'm hoping it's not a chipped spline on a gear.

After about $10k spent diagnosing this issue, which included a 360 pump conversion and many other "suspect" parts, everything was finally sorted out. Car was sold and moved to an F430 since.

How do you like your 430 verses the 355.

Love it, love it, love it. So much more refined. F1 systems are like night and day. I loved my 355 and loved the sound, but the F430 is an absolute beast.

Right on if I was going to switch it wold be to the 430. How about maintenance is it fairly straight forward to do a lot of your own maintenance like the 355 is?

No major needed like that of a 355. No belts to change. The F430 have metal timing chains. Only maintenance needed is an annual service (oil/filter change) and every two years a total fluid change. That's it. Much cheaper to maintain but F430 still plagued with the failing header issue. Ferrari warranties the headers for eight years after date of manufacture though.
