Occurred to me last week on my F430 Spider. Was on a expressway doing around 120mph on '6th' gear and out of a sudden the gear shifted to 'neutral'. The rev just dropped to 1k-2k, not redline. Did a couple of clicks on the downshift paddle and it went back to 4th gear (if I rmb correctly).

The next day was doing a freeway run again and again it happened. If my memory serve me right around 4th gear this time, and gear was changed to neutral.

    Any idea?

The previous owner of my car told the dealer the same thing and they replaced the clutch. Apparently a common symptom of a worn clutch (or maybe a badly out of adjustment PIS).

I been thinking and thought that it has something to do with the gearbox. Possibly to replace to whole gearbox. Thank goodness. Any idea how it has to do with the clutch? Clutch and gears? Hmm..

I would have also thought the worse! Good that it's probably something easy.
Can you come back and let us know what the cause was?
    Thanks

If the clutch is worn beyond a certain point, I believe that the TCU puts the car in neutral to avoid damage. Someone with more technical knowledge please chime in. Gearbox is okay -- only the clutch is affected.

I'm researching this issue also. While shifting, sometimes N is selected instead of the gear. This also happens in Automatic mode so it's not the paddles. No TCU errors at all. I'm going to do a "self learn" with the Leonardo this week to see if that clears it up. Maybe some wear has caused a potentiometer to be out of range.

My 430 did this and it was a worn out clutch.

As others have said, possibly a worn clutch or faulty clutch position sensor.

One other possibility not yet mentioned is low pressure and/or low level in hydraulic system
