Any referrals for V.B. speedo repair for 89 Mondial t ?
The standard answer is usually Palo Alto Another answer is are you sure its the speedo not the sender
No not sure, the needle is just stuck at 20 mph. Is there a way to tell the difference between sender and speedo issue ?
I have mixed feelings on PAspeedo. I just sent them my speedo for repair (speedo worked odometer did not). My sending unit is fine and the problem is likely due to a failed SAY115Y integrated circuit. Two days and about $250 later its ready and now neither the speedo nor the odometer work. I have heard grumbling from others. There's also North Hollywood Speedo in LA and another place in AZ. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101159&highlight=speedometer+308
Another push for North Hollywood Speedometer - excellent work and there and back within a week (and thats from Taiwan). Never tried PA Speedo. Cheers Mark Taiwan/UK
Had also heard so bad reports about Palo Alto. Something about the company being bought out the other year and after that their service started to go down hill. Sent my tach to the following people last year. They gave me great service and a quick turn around. Mailed it out on monday, wednesday afternoon they called and said they received it and would work on it the next day (thursday) and ship it out when they were done. Got it back in the saturday mail. $180.00 to rebuild and return shipment. So far it continues to work great. I had my Factory 85 mph Speedo (80' GTB) overhauled, re-screened to 180mph and re-calibrated about 8 months ago by Palo Alto and I got great service. Turnaround was about a week, price was exactly what they quoted me on the phone, even got a call to tell me it was being shipped back. No problems using them again by me. Joe
I have used Mo-Ma exclusively for nearly 20 years. ALWAYS fixed right the first time, ALWAYS a reasonable price. For me, they have done everything from 1930's Alfa Romeo to any Ferrari restoration I was involved in. I wouldn't send my worst emeny's instruments to Palo Alto.
Veglia Borletti electronic (OEM) installed in 1984 400i GT is "sticking." Won't register above about 55 or 60, and stops at 22 mph...entire time it is sitting in our garage! arm7: What was solution to your similar situation? Where did you send unit? How hard was it to remove/re-install? Thanks.
You should try Foreign Speedo in San Diego. I have used them to restore speedo and tachs for my Moto Guzzi and an Alfa. Very knowledgeable, excellent service and very fair prices. Home
I sent my GT4's speedometer and clock to Palo Alto Speedometer this January to make the odometer and clock reset work. Here is the status of the parts as they were sent to PAS: Speed Sensor: worked Speedometer: worked Trip odometer reset: worked odometer: did not work clock: worked clock time reset: did not work After several weeks, this is the status of the parts as they were returned: Speed sensor: replaced Speedometer: works Trip odometer reset: does not work Odometer: works Clock: does not work Clock reset: works Immediate diagnosis: Speed sensor declared bad, had to buy a replacement even though it worked when is was removed from the car. It was odd features that worked when they were delivered to PAS did not when they were returned and vice versa. I had to purchase a speed sensor from a separate source and pay for the speedometer "work". Not insignificant costs. For whatever reason, they did not charge me for the clock "work'. Just one person's experience.
When rebuilding Nick's 308 speedo i had to exchange the two wires from the PCB going to the speedo coil driver. The original wires lost their flexibility due to age and started to apply pressure to the plastic coil terminal ring, which in turn shifted the plastic guide with the brass gear a bit. This restricted the movement of the needle, similar to the symptoms you have described.
