Traction is immense on newer models. This is particularily with thanks to the immensive advancement in tire technology. Just look at how much better tires have become the last 5-10 years. On the 458 Speciale I believe Ferrari is quoted in saying that the new Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires alone count for 1 second around Fiorano.

Think about the tires that will be available for the next generation of Ferrari's... The F12 "HGTE" (2015/16?) will probably have some pretty trick tires when the time comes.

I am one of those with no experience with GTO or F12, so my question is more hypothetical. Aside from the idea that a GTO will only be built every few decades, why is it impossible for Ferrari to take the F12 and modify it to be a GTO, or build a GTO that looks like it but is on a different frame? The 288 GTO was completely different animal from 308, but looked like a modded version. The 599 GTO looks like a 599, but is a totally different experience as noted. The argument that the F12 is too much of a GT does not seem to be relevant. Am I missing something?

Again, I don't have any real knowledge about these things, just an honest question while reading this interesting thread.

    There was a 430 Scuderia, now there's a 458 Speciale...

There has been a 599 GTO and there will probably be a F12 "Fantastica Machina" or whatever...

I don't understand the debate here...

    There are two different questions

Will it be a hardcore F12 - Answer : Probably

What is better between a F12 and a GTO - Answer : To each his own.

Actually I think there are three:
Will they build a special F12? - very likely.

    Is 599GTO better than F12? - a silly question.

Will they build a GTO based on F12? - This was the original, I believe, and people most knowledgable about GTO's say very unlikely since they have only made 3 GTO models. Probably no GTO for couple of decades.

Perhaps some confusion has been a lack of distinction of some in the discussion between special models and GTO's. Learning of that difference has been fascinating for me.

So, most people believe - rightly so - that there will be a hard core, limited edition, F12. There is some doubt about the GTO name though (I myself don't think it will be called the GTO either, as Ferrari likes changine names all the time). Thus, we all agree in principle.

Good analysis. I think this discussion has been somewhat confused between people discussion wether or not there will be a hardcore F12, and that of what it will be called. So in some posts people have been talking around each other although they agree on the basic principle that there will be a hardcore version of the car.

If you go back to my post #10 you will notice that is exactly what I answered. The confusion is with the GTO name. There will be a more radical version of the F12, no doubt but it will be an evolution of the same F12 by making it lighter, add some power, change a bit of aero ... along the lines of the F430 vs Scud, 458 versus 458S, ... but it won't be a different car. The 599 GTO is a different car compared to the 599 and 599 HGTE. See posts by Speed Racer for more detailed info. Hence why I was saying that if Roman is referring to an improved version of the F12 then the answer is yes, there is one coming but using the GTO name is not going to happen as the "better" version of the F12 will still be an F12.
