Hadn't seen him in two years, we are at a trade show, and he has a 2012 4P12L (or something) McLaren he drives up in.

Said its the best car he ever owned, he put 25K miles on it so far and also races it at Willow Springs. Though he did say best bang for the buck was a new Corvette (which he has also), but the Mclaren is a better performing car

I may have to check one of those out, he says the maintenance requirements are far less than the 458 he was thinking of getting. He says he was told that he had to already have a Ferrari before they would sell him a 458.

Do more homework on the MP4-12C.

A few folks I know have racked-up some mileage and have had issues with them even calling them unreliable. Perhaps they were unlucky. Perhaps your friend is lucky. The McLarens are fairly new cars so do your homework and gloss-over reviews of those low-mileage beauties.

That is good feedback. I know it sounded too good to be true, for what seems like a very complex automobile with active suspension and braking.

    I still think a 308 is prettier.

    I agree.

But my 308 doesn't do 200+ MPH, do an 11.05 sec 1/4 mile and have 662 HP. And it probably doesn't handle as well either, though it isn't bad.

Maybe change the blinker fluid. It should hit those numbers pretty easily.

Maybe that was true during the initial debut for pre-ordering, but by now, they have made an awful lot of 458's. I'm pretty sure all it takes these days is a cleared bank check (or cash) to drive a new 458 off the Dealer floor.

From my po' boy, could never afford one perspective the 12C is clinically perfect future car made in a clinically perfect factory by Mensa geeks in white lab coats. All respect of course.

Saw one at C&C, looked it over, said "gee whiz" then shrugged and moved on.

Nearly bought a '67 F2 before they skyrocketed, however. Now that thing was cool.

But in 1976 the 308 carb car was untouchable against the bandit trans am car, or any other high end car of its time.

Think of it that way when you drive ...it's the best the 70s had to offer, and you are in it :)

Also worth a note is that since the 458 " maintenance requirements " are covered for the first 7 years, I'm not sure why that's an issue. Unless he was referring to the price of tires?

Can we move this to foreign make or even the 458 thread. The threads there are hundreds of pages long.
