Hey everybody loves the DRS gimmick. Let's give this one a chance. If anyone had any doubts it's now official, nothing's sacred if it boosts the TV ratings.
I have been following Grand Prix since 1961, but I am afraid I won't any more. This is the last straw; F1 is stage-managed for TV.
Only until Ecclestone influences the powers that be to clip the wings on WEC/WRC like the last time around with Group C and Group A.
The Chase in NASCAR? Pretty different IMO. From everything I've read online on different forums, this seems to be universally hated. Not even the apologists can defend it. And MS would have one fewer. He would have lost 2003 to Kimi.
The final race in Brazil has been hugely exciting for years, if there ever was a snoozer, I must of been working and not able to watch. Red Bull finished 1-2, would double points of been enough for Webber to finish one spot higher in the DC? Pretty ridiculous idea IMO, this kind of stuff happens in amateur racing, TDi cup does an increasing points scale late in the calender if IRC. The only reason I can see this being done, is means that if you "quite developing your current season car to work on next seasons...blah blah" you could lose a lot in the last race.
Apparently the excitement for 10th place in the points last year wasn't enough! Apologies to Ian and Vizsla.....
+1 Wow indeed! I'm shocked, disappointed & very surprised that they've done this. Terrible, terrible decision. We can only hope it will get overturned some time soon. Not even I can come up with any support for this BS! Cheers, Ian
KI's in agreement with the rest of the world..... Hopefully they'll see sense and reverse this craziness. Cheers, Ian
But would that be deserved??? Why is a win in the last race more important than in the first or second to last one??? I think this is a stupid attempts to make things more "interesting" but on the other side the whole F1 becomes less interesting as it is more arbitrary for most of the people. How do you explain people that the guy became WDC because his car broke down in the second to last race and his competitors car in the last one?
Fast Ian, thanks for posting that even Vettel said it was "ABSURD". I just might have to like Vettel after all if he keeps this up!
I don't think a single relevant person (including fans) have said it was a good idea. It'll be taken away before long...
Can't wait until we have the twin-turbo two stroke motors in 2015. By 2020 Vettel will be running down the track pushing a lawn mower with his team making "racing sounds" behind him. F1 is losing its way.
Rule changes will result in the death of the sport. No need to force the teams to use more than one type of tire or do away with refueling. This isn't racing.
Why just double?? Why not 3x,.. 4x,... or 9x? If the FIA wants it all to be decided at the last race,... why not cancel the other 18? This would also accomplish cost savings as 1 engine would last the entire season. F1 would be green,... because the entire season would be accomplished with a single tank of fuel. Dumb.
First I find this stupid and unnecessary. Second I find the outrage on here a bit unwarranted as well: As some already pointed out F1 had all kinds of points structures in the past. This is just another aberration that won't survive long. Back in the seventies they had half season results where the best results from the first half of the season were combined with the best results of the second season. The idea was similar: to prevent a juggernaut from running away with the title It stopped Jones/ Williams in his track from going for the 79 title, which went to Jody instead. Good outcome but stupid rule. The one here will keep the race organizers of Brazil happy and guarantee Bernie's TV quotes but probably be abandoned after a few seasons. Or kept and nobody will be upset about it anymore. As long as they don't cover the wheels or the cockpit it is still F1 and I'll watch it.
Not Brazil Kimo Sabe... Abu Dhabi gets the 2x. If the championship is won in the last race... there won't even be champagne.
Want to make F1 special? Award a "consolation" point for last place in Q1. Or to make it more interesting, award 1 point for 10th place in Q3; that should make more teams come with different strategies for the Q3 shootout.......
