A home owner's dogs (plural) broke through the fence separating their property and killed a neighbor's pet cat. She filed a report with animal control and also contacted the local PD who said they can not do anything. How can this issue/investigation be expedited?

    Thanks.

I thought you were in law enforcement, Wouldn't you know who to contact to get this expedited? I doubt the local law even cares about this, sadly.

Taking them to court is likely the only feasible course of action. From what I have heard from people who were on the show, Judge Judy will fly them out, pay them for their time and pay the judgement, if there is one. Sounds pretty good to me.

Ok let me say for the 1000th time that yes I am still a state certified Peace Officer in good standing yet I am not with a dept and this is where the confusion lies. I also find it not only ignorant but very frustrating that most people think that just because someone holds a law enforcement license that they should know ie have all the "poop" on every aspect of law enforcement. There are specific area's of law enforcement which require specific training and certifications. As well I did state in my original post that our local law enforcement agency told this complainant that they could not help them.

    EDITED.

There are specific criminal codes for dogs biting people, but, probably not dog biting pets. This would likely be resolved as a civil matter because pets are chattels. The owner of the cat has to take the owner of the dogs to civil court.

Don't local communities generally have a leash law that precludes people from allowing their dogs to just get loose and run wild?

I know that my dog in Carrolton, Texas got loose twice - got picked up twice by animal control - and they told me that if it happened again he was going to be euthanized.

    I don't get it.

As a LEO, whether active or ready-to-deploy, you don't think people in general should expect LEO's to know the law?

And as a LEO you don't know the proper authorities, or whose jurisdiction this should be?

And because you don't know, you're asking Ferrarichat for the answer?

Just another example of a delicate ego completely misconstruing and constructing words to fit their personal agenda, glass houses.

At best a municipal ordinance violation. If you have a city or county ordinance you may be able to have the pet owner issued a Class C ticket.

Cats are property, unfortunate as that sounds. And unless the owner of the dogs directed th dogs to attack the cat I don't see how this can be labelled anything but that.

And yes I am a Texas Peace Officer with full arrest authority commissioned by a police agency.

I'm thinking "poison pork chop over the fence" x 2 is the only real resolution, here.

    Dogs kill cats.
It's "what they do".....I watched a pair of Boxers destroy a pet once......very sad.

A pair of stray German Shepherds caught Val's last cat out on the railroad tracks, too far from safety.

But really, there's no recourse in mankind's law that will trump nature's law.

I'll record the "passing" and mail it to you, deal? :p

Any way it seems this is an issue for 'animal control' and there have yet to be any updates.

Funny, I recall the "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" chant of LEOs to mere civilians. HMMMMmmmmmmmm..........

Sure seems like something law enforcement shouldn't waste their time with. At least my tax dollars don't give a **** about a dead cat or dog. They do care about actual crime though.

Tell the cat people to call the dog peoples insurance company. Let them deal with it.

The cat's owner is still dealing with 'animal control' and I agree with you that law enforcement have bigger fish to fry so it is hard to say what the outcome will be. The only affiliation I have with this incident is that these people are residents of our neighborhood and my only intent by bringing up this subject on this forum was for various views and opinions, nothing more.

THAT is funny. In comedy routines I believe they call that technique a "call back".

Oh well in that case, FerrariChat seems like the ideal place to bring this up.
