I know no one posts in OOT anymore but I'm giving it a try anyway.

I work in the strategy/operations consulting division of one of the Big 4 firms. I started there last February after graduating (undergrad) in December '12.

As I evaluate how long I want to stay at the firm and what I want to get out of the experience, I wanted to ask if anyone here on Fchat works or worked at a management consulting company (or more fittingly, started their career there) and what their thoughts are on the job as a career developer.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

10 years in big 4, left and went into industry. If you're currently staff level, hang out (if you can) until after 1 year as manager. First few years, be a sponge. Listen, watch, and learn.

Yep. Invest at least 3-4 yrs. and learn. Don't forget you re not really doing anything operative, just writing on slides what other people shoud do and drawing pie charts.

Identify a job where your learing experience is helpful in a real life job. Best opportunities might be in places where there are usually no ex consultants. You ll appear totally organised and focussed :)
